The Carolina Theater hosts Retrofantasma, one of the longest running monthly film festival in the country. A monthly film series of double-features dedicated to bringing classic horror movies back to the big screen in 35mm! Created in 1998, RETROFANTASMA has developed a large dedicated audience of horror movie enthusiasts whose desire to see their favorite terror flicks is matched only by their willingness to cheer at the screen.
In March Retro is taking a break from the splatter and grindhouse fair to have a double feature of Clue and Hocus Pocus. Of course, both these movies are justified cult classics, but let me say (even if I sound a bit like a film snob here) you really haven't experienced these movies if you haven't seen them projected in 35mm in a theater full of enthusiastic fans. In addition, Retro goes to great lengths to make the experience as immersible and fun as possible with an awesome intro, period trailers, trivia, and even a raffle.
Tickets for the double feature are $8.00. Our group will meet-up in the upstairs lobby prior to seating at 6:30. Clue starts at 7:00, and Hocus Pocus starts 15 minutes after Clue ends. After the show we'll retire to a local bar (probably Bull McCabes, if we can find a table) to play a game of Clue, to see if it turns out like the movie.
