genteXt November--Maybe she'll bring the refreshments

This October, Durham County Library had Margaret Maron as its feature author for Durham Reads Together. GenteXt is a bit late reading a book as part of the program, but better late than never.

The Bootlegger's Daughter is the first in Margaret Maron's Deborah Knott series, set in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. The main character, Deborah Knott, is an attorney and asked to investigate an eighteen-year-old unsolved murder by the victim's daughter.

One of the hallmarks of this series is Maron's familiarity with the area. A native North Carolinian, this series has a distinctive Southern feel and the different books in the series explore controversial issues within the state and the South.
