Any Interest?: Durham Foodie Tour

  • No location was chosen

  • UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the tour operator and unfortunately, they cannot find enough restaurants to participate in the tour this Sunday. Apparently due to special events surrounding graduations/weddings and such. We were going with option #1 as the majority of those who voted early said tour 1 and I had to give them plenty of notice. They can still work up a tour for us but we will need to pick another date. Since the holiday is coming up, I would like to setup something after that for June. I'm working with them to find a date and will let you know. Sorry for the disappointment as I know you were looking forward to this as was I. I will cancel this particular Meetup after a few days so no one gets confused and setup the new one. I just want to make sure everyone gets the message.

Any interest in doing a foodie tour around Durham? I have talked with the tour operators and here's the deal:

We pick one of the tours below but we won't know the restaurants ahead because they have to set everything up according to the number attending, which restaurants are in walking distance and are available on our chosen day, etc. The tour would probably be in the afternoon between lunch and dinner possibly. It is a walking tour...we walk to each restaurant!

Once we have a good idea of the number of people interested, we confirm the date and people either pay the tour operator via email or through a phone call. We are getting the same prices as a special deal going on now and this is less than their normal pricing for these tours.

NOTE: I have not taken these tours before so I cannot vouch for how good they are or which restaurants they choose.

So if you are seriously interested, RSVP and when you do, vote on the option you prefer #1,2, or 3 below and add that in your RSVP comment. Majority wins.

    Here's the promo:

Take your taste buds on a tour around town with one of these expertly curated walking tours geared for major foodie fans. Each experience offers mouthwatering cuisine, and you'll take home an Adventures card good for discounts at select local businesses for the next time hunger strikes:

    #1 • $19 ($39 value) for a Bites & Sights foodie excursion

Bites & Sights foodie excursions feature 10 distinctive bites and sips -- enough for lunch! -- at local, non-chain eateries during a leisurely 3- to 3.5-hour daytime walking tour. You'll also enjoy a bonus dessert tasting.

    #2 • $34 ($69 value) for a Foodie excursion

Foodie excursions let you discover culinary gems in your neighborhood in a 2- to 3-hour walking tour. Adults and adventurous eaters ages 8 and up can sample popular regional specialties at four to five restaurants -- enough for a full meal. Water will be flowing freely, while cocktails and other beverages will be available for purchase.

    #3 • $39 ($79 value) for a Food & Wine excursion

Food & Wine excursions feature five gourmet food tastings with beverage pairings at privately-owned, upscale establishments over the course of 2 to 3 hours. Fit for the 21-and-up set, these tours take place in the late afternoon or evening.

I am up for any of the choices. They all sound good. Number 1 is probably less eating but it also is less pricey. So I am on board with the groups' choice.

Really like the idea, however, I'm out of town on that day. Hopefully, there will be another time.

Lunch. Pricey and if lunch is great it could be worth it to do a dinner sometime

Sounds fun but whether I can go of course it depends on the date. I agree with your reasoning about option 1, Jan, so that gets my vote too.

  • Pete

I'm interested depending on the tour, date etc

#1 since this is my first try with this operator. Please however vote how you like. If it's a hit, I'm sure we'll do it again.
