FREE Music: Carrboro Music Festival

What was originally just one jam packed Sunday of more varieties of music that most can even begin to envision, has now become two.....

This year we are partnering with the North Carolina Folklore Society on Saturday in a celebration of the organization's 100th Anniversary.

The Folklore society will be celebrating in Carrboro on Saturday September 28th with music, food, art, demonstrations, and so much more at numerous venues around Town. More information can be attained at N C Folklore Society. The Recreation and Parks Department has scheduled four groups to perform at the Town Commons between 2:00 & 6:00 p.m.. as a contribution to the celebration.

Then....The Carrboro Music Festival on Sunday!!!

This 100th anniversary celebration will be followed the next day by Carrboro's day long, free festival featuring over 180 performing acts at 25 indoor and outdoor venues. In the space of a few hours within downtown Carrboro, a listener can hear Bluegrass, Folk, Jazz, Country, Rock & Roll, Classical, and World Music. This is Carrboro's effort to showcase Triangle area performers and the varied musical styles they represent. All of the performers donate their talents to foster a strong sense of community and to reveal their talents to a wider audience.

How to Meetup:

The Saturday Folklore Society events are just FYI and not part of the Meetup. For the Carrboro Music Festival on Sunday, if you would like to Meetup, please meet at 11:30 at the Park and Ride lot listed below. Parking in Carrboro is hard to find. You can try your luck, but I recommend the bus! I will wait until 11:45 before boarding.

Carrboro is quite walkable and the music is both indoors and out all across the town. The range of music is so vast as I am sure most of your tastes are, so this is again a difficult festival to do as a Meetup. We can start out together to get the lay of the land and then what usually happens is groups or individuals split off and do their own thing. That is fine as I know most will not necessarily agree with my tastes. You can park yourself at one venue all day or do what I do, travel all over the town and back again. It's one of the best freebies out there by far!

Wear comfortable shoes; sunglasses, hat, bring a bottle of water (drinks and food can be purchased at food trucks and restaurants)

Music schedule by time:  http://www.carrboromusicfestival.com/pdf/2013CMFtime.pdf

Free Transportation - Where to find the bus:

A free bio-diesel shuttle bus will be running back and forth between the Carrboro Plaza Park & Ride Lot and downtown from noon until 8:00 PM on Sunday.
The Park & Ride Lot is behind the center of the buildings.
A map of the route is at www.carrboromusicfestival.com

Your annual $5 dues will be collected at this event. Please voluntarily submit your dues to the Host at this time. The Meetup site is not free ($144/year) and dues must be paid to maintain the site. Thanks in advance

So sorry I missed you guys. I should have known it would be impossible to find you but sounds as if you all had a great time also. Me and my friends did chalk writing on the street and dancing under the trees to wonderful sounds. Wrapped it up with ice cream and rocking chairs chatting with other fair goers. My favorite was the folk music at the Armadillo except for the intercom that kept cutting for folks to pick up their lunches. Finally got to be too much so we moved on. Discovered Brazilian music at the Arts Center which led to tickets to see folk singer Sarah McQuaid there on the 6th of October. Any other interested Folk Music lovers out there?

I loved hanging out with Jan and having some time with GinaMaria and Bauer. After Jan and I walked the length of the fair when the bus stubbornly didn't come, we thought we'd sit and relax. We saw my grandkids and kids and began dancing with them. I agree with Jan there is no FREE festival like this here. I LOVE Carrboro festival.

Best Festival in this area in my opinion, especially since it's all free! I enjoyed the beautiful day out with Elaine, catching up briefly with GinaMaria. The last three bands were terrific, some of my favorites and the crowds too. Fun time dancing at the end too!

It was great seeing you and Elaine as well. Bauer enjoyed hanging out with us. Guess I should have stuck around for the dancing! :-) Have a great week.

The Park and Ride is a ways out on HWY 54. The address of one of the business' in Carrboro Plaza is 104 HWY 54. The Park and Ride is behind the plaza and not on the store front side.

Hi everyone....I just noticed the music doesn't start until 1. I thought it started at noon. Would everyone who is riding over on the bus like to grab a quick bite to eat somewhere first and then hit the music at 1? We can ride over and get off near where we want to eat. It can even be just Weaver Street. What do you think. Otherwise, maybe we should meet a little later. Sorry, but I did not see it until I opened the band schedule. I am coming tomorrow but probably with only stay until just before dark as the dampness bothers me with this lingering cold. I am pretty sure I am not contagious as it's been over a week since it started. I think I need the fresh air, sun and music....and of course, your smiling faces. Let me know what you think!!!

If you want to Meetup, let's meet at the Park and Ride at 11:45 and catch the noon bus. If you plan to try your luck parking closer, let me know and we'll decide where to meet. Just to let you know, I have been sick this week with a bad cold so hosting will depend on how I feel. I hope to be over this by then but I will have to let you know as it gets closer. I am in the coughing all night and not sleeping phase now. I definitely don't want to spread this around as it's been a bad one. Jan, I will see you at the bus and Elaine and Deborah, let me know if you plan to ride the bus or meet elsewhere.

With a "zero" chance of rain and cool temps it should be the perfect day to wander and take in the extraordinary music. Of course there is also the food and the friends. What a perfect day! I am looking forward to it . . .
