Welaka State Forest is a haven for a variety of birds. We'll look for wood warblers and explore some roads and trails in the forest.
We'll visit the Fish Hatchery ponds that should have an assortment of wading birds and check out the observation tower.
This should be an easy trip with most birding on short walks. Bring lunch (or stop in the town of Welaka afterwards), water, bug repellant and a sense of adventure!
Meeting Place: We will meet at the Fleming Island Publix at the intersection of Hwy 17 and Hibernia Rd. It is approx. 8+ miles south of 295 on Hwy 17. Welaka is approx. 50 miles south of Fleming Island on Hwy 309 off of Hwy 17.
