Urban Athletics: New Year's Eve Bike Ride and Outdoor After Party

Are you tired of spending New Year's Eve in an overcrowded and overpriced club with a bunch of drunken strangers?  Let's start the new year off right -- in the great outdoors with music, dancing, and fireworks.

The plan ...

We'll meet at Washington Square Park to join the Time's Up organization's annual New Year's Eve group bicycle ride and after party.  At 10:00 PM we'll start our roll up to Belvedere Castle in the middle of Central Park for the best (and free!) New Year's Eve dance party in town with fireworks! Dress festive -- don't forget your noisemakers and party favors -- and bring food and drink to share if you like.

Inline skaters are also welcome if that is your preferred mode of movement.

The important stuff ...

  • Dress festive but warmly. We'll be outdoors for several hours and frostbite would be a bad way to start the new year.
  • Bringing food and drink to share is encouraged.
  • This event is FREE of charge.
  • Call me a wuss, but extreme Arctic cold and inclimate weather will cancel this meetup for me although Time's Up may still hold the event. Check your email the morning of the event for any last-minute updates.
  • RSVP only if you seriously plan to attend as space is limited. If you RSVP and I notice you have a number of no shows or a history of last minute cancellations, you will be removed.
  • I will distribute my mobile phone number to the confirmed RSVPs two days before the event. Don't leave home without it.

Best NYE ever! A five star in my bucket list. Glad to see those shocked crowd at times square when they saw a rally of bike riders.

This beat standing in some crowded bar or street waiting for nothing to happen at the strike of midnight. Everything about the ride and park was awesome. I know not because I can remember everything, but because I have awesome pictures. I'm never drinking again.

Hey Kevin and Eli, I totally agree!!!! Those who didn't come out, missed a really good time. There was so much going on, it felt like Spring time. Thanks Kevin for organizing this!!
For those who didn't attend, look at all the fun we had captured in the pictures!!!!

I'm sure that no other party could've compared with the adventurous fun where the scene changed every hour to something more entertaining. But our supporters were appreciated, no matter how much they missed out.

Sorry that I did not see this response last night, Q. It ended up taking me longer to get there than expected anyway, so I was unable to pre-game.

My belly is my flask. That's the key to staying warm. I'm all about bragging rights. And what better bragging rights can one have that will beat out riding through Manhattan on New Years Eve in 30 degree weather? Nothing, that's what! Take that! Take that!

I'm still down like four flat tires and no spare! It's a bike ride on NYE in NYC, did anyone really expect tropical weather?! Cold weather?! Meh! I'm not afraid to stick my tongue to a pole!

I am coming to cheer you all on even though I wussed out of ridding in the cold! :)

I'm feeling wimpy about the near freezing temp. I am sorry, Kevin, I keep RSVPing for winter rides and then I realize I don't want to be on my bike under 40 degrees!

I have the same question as Valeah. Is there a place close by to rent a bike?

Thanks! I'll check into renting one near me. Hope there'll still be spots left!

This sounds awesome! Unfortunately I don't have a bike. Any suggestions on where to rent a bike around these parts? Or can I just meet yall at the castle with food to share?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
