We are families of elementary-aged independent learners, aged around 5-10 (with siblings and friends of all ages welcome).

Please do not use this group to sell products or services. This is a privately funded group and not a good place for advertising or fishing of any kind.

We welcome people of all lifestyles, orientations, faiths, and beliefs. Any events planned here shall be secular and not exclusive to anyone based on belief, orientation, or lifestyle.

Some of us are here to form a learning co.op of kids in the early elementary range. Others just want to meet up informally to play in the woods, explore at the beach, visit museums and classes, and get together to play, make, and learn. Traditionally schooled friends are welcome to join in on events too, if they like. Let's build community and have fun!

To become a member you'll be asked to submit a photo and some information about your self and your family. We will want to meet you (if we haven't already) and then you'll be granted access to to site. This is to ensure that no freakazoids or solicitors have access to our information, and that no one but other lovely homeschooling/unschooling families will know when and where we are going to be with our kids. Important, right?

The aim of this group is to provide an active, fun, and inclusive complement to the other very excellent homeschooling/ unschooling meetups in the area, with an emphasis on activities closer to Alameda/Oakland/ Berkeley, and with younger elementary-aged kids and their families specifically in mind.

Members are asked to attend at least one event a month, and all members that we have met in person will gain access to planning events. Events that are planned for Wednesday or Thursday will likely be lightly attended due to many of our members' prior plans. (On that topic, you may want to check out Alameda Oakland Home Learners for a larger and really nice community that includes young kids and also many families of teens and tweens. We are not affiliated with AOHL in any way but some members here are also members there.)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
