Every year in the beginning of August, East Coast in association with other New England dive centers, organizes the biggest local diving event of the year. The picnic at Sandwich town beach often has over 100 divers plus family members and friends that turn up for the festivities.

Rob Harris is back from last year - his food was an amazing success. Check out:

We run a grill all day with hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, sausages, and any lobsters you catch. $10 a head gets you all you can eat! There is also a tidal river that you can snorkel down with small stripers, crabs and other sea life that is great for people of all ages. This is the perfect event to bring the family to and enjoy the day. Be sure to reserve any gear early cause it goes quick!

OPTIMAL TIDE: Any tide

DIFFICULTY: Very easy

DEPTH: 30 foot max

EXPOSURE: General east

DIVE DESCRIPTION:This is one of the few shore dives on cape cod and maybe the best one. The reef slopes very gently and has a coating of medium to small rocks over the entire dive site. there are also clay shelves that have been dug out over time that are great hiding holes for lobsters and other sea life. This is the location of our annual picnic extravaganza during early August. It’s a great spot for experts and novices alike.

PARKING: Parking is vast and easy. There is a lot along the beach that can host hundreds of cars easily. During season there is a person working the gate collecting $10 a car usually between 8am and 6pm so be sure to bring some cash just in case.

I can't make it (poison ivy) but my husband Larry and my 2 newly certified daughters (16 & 19) are planning to come. Have fun, all!
