We are very excited to be having Vicki Genfan appearing here at ECMS. Vicki is the most phenomenal guitarist we’ve ever heard. She was the winner of Guitar Player Magazine’s ‘Guitar Superstar 2008’ contest. She uses 32 different tunings and a unique aggressive, harmonic tapping style that is very rhythmic. As if that’s not enough, she is a fabulous vocalist. Search for her on Youtube and you will find out a lot about her. Here is the link to her “Atomic Reshuffle” that won her the Guitar Player Magazine contest. She not only performs her own songs but also does wonderful arrangements of some classic covers like ‘Norwegian Wood’ and ‘Groovin’. We had Vicki here for a house concert a couple of years ago, and she also played at a benefit for my grandson. She is a great person as well as a great guitarist. A suggested donation of $20 for the concert will go entirely to Vicki.
Vicki teaches guitar and has offered to hold a guitar workshop for us along with the house concert. She teaches tunings, picking, and her famous harmonic tapping. The workshop will be two hours long. The donation is $20 for the workshop or a combined amount of $35 for both the workshop and concert. Once you've seen her credits, you'll realize what a deal this is!
You can sign up for the workshop at our "sister" meetup group designed for those who want to share their musical talents: www.Meetup.com/ECMS-music-workshops.
Here is her official bio. You can see more at www.VickiGenfan.com.
Guitar Player Magazine’s 2008 “Guitar Superstar,” Vicki Genfan defies categorization. A unique and fiercely original musical talent, she has been called the ‘Jimi Hendrix of acoustic guitar.’ “While others make noise with tapping stylings, Genfan understands the power of melody and instead makes music.” - Kirk Albrecht, www.minor7th.com. Drawing from folk, jazz, pop, soul and world music, Vicki has a distinctive style that pushes the boundaries of the singer/songwriter genre. An international phenomena, Vicki is lighting up stages in venues as diverse as the International Montreal Jazz Festival, Germany’s Open String Festival, Italy’s Soave Guitar Festival and Festival Across Styles in the Czech Republic. She has four CDs to her credit and four instructional DVDs, and in 2009 Luna Guitars unveiled the Vicki Genfan Signature Guitar built by Luthier Gray Burchette.Vicki has enjoyed teaching privately and in groups for over 25 years and brings her warmth, humor and inspiration to all who have experienced her many workshops, clinics and classes. “If I could play like Vicki, I would stay home and entertain myself” – Steve Vai.
