April Workshop

I want to thank all of you who attended our first workshop yesterday. I enjoyed getting to know you and listening to your ideas and your music. I hope to meet those who couldn’t make it at a future workshop.

We have quite a range of very talented people, from students just starting out to old hands who have been playing forever, all with an interest in learning more. Some of the ideas for going forward include…

• Focus groups - If the attendance at a workshop is large, we can split up into smaller groups each with a specific focus, for example working on flat picking or how to develop a bridge for a song.

• Song critiques - Song writers can bring a song they are working on for feedback and suggestions from the group.

• Song production – A members can ask get help on different vocal and instrumental parts for arranging a song and record it during the workshop.

• Alliances - People who have met through the group can continue work together outside of the group on a particular project or an on-going basis.

We decided to meet as a group on a monthly basis, so I have set the next one up for the April 6th. Feel free to bring along some drinks and/or snacks for the afternoon of music. The format of the workshop will be set by the participants, but I always plan to have the last hour dedicated to a song circle so people can share a song with us.

The following Sunday is our house concert and guitar workshop with Vicki Genfan. Please RSVP on this Meetup group for the latter. To sign up for the concert, go to www.meetup.com/ECMS-House-Concerts. It’s a show you won’t want to miss.

Terry, thanks to you and Jill for opening up your home for this group. I enjoyed the various music styles. Will try to come with a current opus in process next time, have no idea what number opus I am at, and many are in the "coming together" tank.

Hopefully everyone who is coming tomorrow has seen the time change (11:00 AM - 2:00 PM). Considering the hour, you may want to bring along a snack and something to drink. See ya tomorrow!

    Hi Terry,
    I can make it Saturday from 1 - 4 or Sunday from 3 - 6.
    Thanks!

Donna, I'm sorry if the change in time means you won't be able to make it. That time slot was the only option I really had. I still hope to see you and, if not, hopefully the next time.

Terry, I printed out the directions you sent. I also got info from mapquest and a GPS. If I'm not there by 11:30, send out the Coast Guard! LOL!

I will try to arrive as soon as possible, looking forward to meeting some new musicians as my inspirations are a bit stale and jaded at the moment.

I'm moving our meetup this Sunday to 11:00 to 2:00. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and hope you all can still make it. Don't worry about arriving late if you can't get here at 11.

    Hi folks,

Unfortunately, I have a conflict with the time of next Sunday’s meet up that I need to resolve. I am trying to rearrange the other event, but if I can’t, I need to know your flexibility regarding when we will meet. Please rank the following times as to when you would be able to make it. Also, let me know any times when you simply can’t make it. Let me know ASAP so I can reschedule if necessary.

    Saturday the 5th from 11 – 2
    Saturday the 5th from 1 - 4
    Sunday the 6th from 11 – 2
    Sunday the 6th from 3 - 6

    Thanks,
    Terry

Ranking: 1 = Most preferred; 4 = Least preferred. I can make any of the times. I'm somewhat flexible.

We talked about some "break-out" groups last meeting. I've been thinking that one area in which I would really like to improve is vocal harmonizing. So, if the opportunity presents, I could get better at this and would benefit from help.
And on the other hand, if anyone is interested in guitar harmonies I could show a little of that.

Good thoughts. I'd be happy to work on vocal harmonies with the group. Does anyone have any other thoughts on things to work on?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
