Product Management is Not Optional - August ELSIG Event with Rich Mironov

TITLE: Product Management is Not Optional

The focus of product management is doing the right things; the focus of engineering is doing those things right.  Together, we're responsible for defining and building products that customers love and pay for.

Missing or mis-aligned product management (product ownership) can manifest itself through high interrupt rates, unstable backlogs, incomplete user stories/requirements, and poor team understanding of customer problems.  Or building and shipping underwhelming products.

We'll map out the essentials of tech product management, identify engineering-side symptoms of weak product processes, talk about why roadmaps/backlogs are so politically complex, and find ways for all of us to collaborate more closely.

SPEAKER: Rich Mironov

About the Speaker:

Rich Mironov is a veteran of six tech start-ups (including as founder/CEO and VP Products) and CEO of Mironov Consulting. Since 2006, he’s consulted/mentored product teams at more than 75 large and small technology companies. He wrote “The Art of Product Management,” and has been blogging about products since 2001. He founded the first Product Camps, chaired the first product owner/manager tracks at the annual Agile conference, and speaks/teaches widely on product strategy, agile, entrepreneurship and product management organizations.

Rich has served on the SVPMA board and guest-lectured at many business schools (Haas, MIT, Dublin Institute of Technology, Stanford, Santa Clara...).  He has an M.B.A. from Stanford and a B.S. Physics from Yale.

The Cure for Tech Companies in Trouble

At Tech-Rx, we actively seek out and rescue early-stage companies in crisis using a process we call Micro Private Equity™. Our unique model combines new investment capital with active, hands-on management in a way that aligns the interests of current investors, new investors and the company’s management team. We bring a balanced perspective to crisis management and recognize that identifying and leveraging a company’s existing strengths is as important as facing and dealing with its weaknesses.

For troubled companies, Micro Private Equity™ from Tech-Rx offers alternatives unavailable elsewhere. Early-stage companies with concerns are encouraged to contact us for a confidential assessment at no cost or obligation to them.

Visit tech-rx.com/help-for-companies/ For sophisticated investors, membership in our Investor Network delivers a uniquely promising and enjoyable way to invest.
