Heroes wanted . . . competent scoundrels will suffice. July 13 or 14

I'm new to Nottingham and am looking to run an old-school, 1st ed. AD&D session on Sun. July 14.  I've been working on a proper campaign world for a few months now, mostly drawing on some knowledge I've gotten from my work on politics and religion in medieval Europe (I teach History for a living). I'm looking for some mature gamers who like a challenge--this isn't Tomb of Horrors, where _everyone_ dies, but it's no stroll in the park either. I've already got one hardy volunteer (very experienced, but that won't necessarily save him), but could use a few more players to fill out the party for the first adventure and, if things go well, beyond. I can promise a good challenge, an interesting world, and some quite colourful NPC's (including Dun, the world's filthiest swamp-Ranger, and his scabrous goat companion, You Bastard). Newbies to AD&D are welcome. Power-gamers and rules-lawyers should probably look elsewhere :)

The title of the first adventure is "Family Values."

Any takers?

Really enjoyed the session, you all did a bang-up job, and nobody bought the farm!

Oh man, AD&D in the arboretum - its like 1996 all over again. Ace.

Ah, the d12. Unless you have a Halberd, you'll never use it. This will be straight up 1st ed., with a couple of my own small wrinkles.

More like 1986. Used to live in Noel Street and play in a house just behind the arboretum (was in the Trent Ploy wargames group back then)

Looking forward to the session, DM'ing a group at the moment using 2nd ed/1st ed mix rules with few enhancements.
Will be fun back playing old school AD&D, 4th Ed is awful.

I hope it's going to be a good one, and I'm glad you are along! I wouldn't touch 4th ed. with a Glaive-Guisarme. I like 3rd ed., but combat takes too long and it's so numbers-focused. Also, the 1st ed. DM's Guide, though a bit unwieldy, is full of really amazing stuff that can be used inventively, if you're willing to plow through it.

I've already gotten confirmation from Colin, but if Mike, Andrew, George, and Vic (and Gabzilla, if they're interested) could all sent me a private message with their regular emails, I'll send around a brief summary of the campaign world and we can start talking characters (also provide my address, contact info., and finalize the time). I'll need to know who is playing what and get a sense of character background before I can put the finishing touches on the adventure. I think this is going to an excellent group.

i would love to go, but transport on sunday may be difficult, i live in rainworth and rely on public transport, but i will try to arrange something, a good game is worth a 4 mile walk on a sunday evening :) first ed ad&d interests me, takes me back to memories of al-quadim and dragon lance although they were 2ed games i played.

Hi. I haven't played AD&D in an age so am probably more of an incompetent scoundrel... But am definitely interested in this.

From colin's comment I will say yes but can only commit to one session for now as already in a weekly game.

Hi is this a one off or a weekly game?

    June 18, 2013

    • Alexander A.

This starts as a one-off, but if the session goes well, and the players are willing, this could become a monthly game, day and time tba.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
