Easy Bike Ride to Lunch and Back: 20 Miles RT

  • Jan 26, 2013 · 10:00 AM

We will meet in Riverside at the bike trail in Fairmount Park. Ride about 10 miles to El Torito on Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino and then ride back another 10 miles back to our cars. It will be about 20 miles round trip. Please bring plenty of water, and a helmet. We will have lunch on the patio where we can bring our bikes . The trail is basically flat and this ride is suitable for beginners. If you want to go fast, this is not the ride for you!

To find the bike trail you can use Mapquest by putting in the address: 2978 Dexter Drive. Riverside, Ca 92501. Or, clink on this link for Google maps:,-117.38368&sspn=0.030241,0.055447&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2980+Dexte... The bike trail is the unmarked trail off of Dexter. Look for the notation on the map that says "Fairmount Park" with the tree symbol. The trailhead as next to that. Here is a picture of the trailhead - I'll wait on the picnic table on the left.  You can park on Redwood, you'll see where when you get to this spot:

I think we are all watching the weather closely, wondering if we'll be able to ride tomorrow or not.  The ride is NOT cancelled. We have three contingency plans:

A) If the weather is good, we will go to El Torrito as planned.

B) If the weather is iffy, we will only go a few miles and have brunch at Mission Burger:

This option would only be about a 20 min. bike ride on the trail.  It is a fast food place, good food but certainly not fancy. They have an extensive menu from breakfast, to mexican to burgers. We will need to lock our bikes if we go here, so please bring a bike lock.

C) If the weather doesn't let up, we will meet at the trailhead and drive somewhere for brunch.

If you decide none of these options are for you, please remove your name from the list so we are not wondering if you are coming. I have a smart phone and will check to see who is still coming from the trailhead. Thanks!

Great weather! I too had a flat tire, but with everyone's help, I was able to get it fixed and finish the ride. Thanks Melissa.

    Hi Melissa,
Did you notice the posted time is 10 PM. I'm guessing you meant 10 AM, right?

Yes Glen, and it is full. So I asked Rose if it would be okay with her if I posted this. I have ridden with her group before, but was too late in signing up - I thought there might be others that wanted to get out and go for a ride, but were not able to get into her ride. If you are one of the ones that made it in, then you were lucky!
