Let's get a mid week evening workout with this ride around Bonelli park with your ride organizers, John and Patrick around Puddingstone Lake! Riding around the park in the early evening is a welcome change from the heat of the day, as there is a lake effect and an evening breeze to cool things down.
Frank G. Bonelli Park occupies an irregular shaped area on the east end of San Jose Hills, northwest of Pomona and south of La Verne and San Dimas. It has a reservoir of approximately 250 acres of total area and 5 miles of shoreline. The park covers 2,220 acres of which 1233 acres is open space comprised mainly of rolling hills and steep canyons covered with chaparral, cactus and coastal sage and scrub. There are approximately 14 miles of nature, hiking and riding trails throughout the park.
For our ride, we will enter the park from Brackett Air Field and ride through the park, obtaining views of the lake, RV and picnic areas. We will then go up and around the dam/reservoir and complete the loop via Puddingstone Drive and Fairplex Drive, and returning to Brackett Air Field.
MILES: 7.5 to 15 - We will go one to two times around the park for a total of 7.5 to 15 miles depending on the group. There will be a couple of stops to regroup after the short hills. After the first loop, there will be a short break at the Airfield before we do the second loop. The second loop is optional. This ride has some up and down sections with a few short hills to contend with in the park. Once we reach the street, it is mostly flat.
DIFFICULTY: Low Moderate to moderate depending on your conditioning and bike riding experience. Although this is a casual ride, it is not a ride for beginners.
