MineCraft gives you SKILLS - Family open day

*****Lead by Stefan our MineCraft SEVER peer mentor****** Version 1.7.2 of MineCraft in the house and ready for the next steps? Server JAM day. Why not come talk to us about how your kids could learn how to turn all that game time into skills with coding? By creating their own multitool, blocks with resources in them, skins as MODS or even tame their own Creeper.. maybe!? EPIK is inviting you to come find out how this can be done.

While our of-springs enjoy a day of making with MineCraft, a few of us are going to be learning to make SUSHI so we can all have lunch, and we will also play with the FLORA (not Margarine but an Arduino wearable tech tool).

What I need to know for this event:

1. Parents that stay, help and participate at the event/s it's free for all your own kids, donations still welcome if you can afford it.

2. Parents that plan to send, drop and go, there will be a £10 charge for the day per little person.

3. New to EPIK parents, first MineCraft event is free as a taster.

Each child will need a laptop to take part, please make best effort to bring one, we do have 3 spares but these are in high demand :) TY!

You will need your own MineCraft account to take part:

Please do not block the gates of the next building even it they are locked :) TY
If you cannot stay the whole day I recommend you do not park in front of the office, it will be grid locked with parked cars. Please park neatly and tightly so we can fit as any cars in front of the office.
You can also park down Claremont way if you need to leave early, it's a 1 minute walk to us.
Please do not block the gates of the next building even it they are locked :) TY

It's absolutely awesome we have SO many coming to our first family open day to play MineCraft and for the parents to meet each other. I know a few of you are diving over 3 hours to get here so thank you all for taking part as a family.

Please also join us on Facebook, we have a group setup for MineCraft parents https://www.facebook.com/groups/EPIKEU we use it to signpost and encourage parents to share ideas and ask questions there as other parents can read and help with answers which really does helps!

Server Jam? Does this mean the kids just play Minecraft all day?

    January 15, 2014

    • Dorine F.

Yes this Saturday is about building friendships with other kids who like what they do, MineCraft, while the mentors and parents talk to each other :)

Hi All - my wife and I are looking forward to meeting other parents. Our boy Archie (12) is a Minecraft nut and actually very good at it. Our big frustration and concern is him lieing about what he is doing and how long he spends on it. I know he lies because I keep an eye on what he is doing and catch him out - usual kids stuff! The time thing we just want balance and to ensure it is not his only interest as that doesn't help with his social life. Apart from that I'm quite proud that he has such an interest in it and is seemingly so knowledgeable in it.

Yeah and then he switches over to his xbox or just watches Minecraft videos on YouTube! There are worse things he could be into but we just dont want it to be all consuming / obsesvive
