I was at the Arizona Science Center over the weekend. Found a very interesting exhibit in the how-rhe-brain-works area. There is a machine where two people put on helmets with sensors then sit across from each other. Between them is a ball. There is a brain activity monitor for each. Each person tries to be more relaxed than the other. The Rolls toward the person who is less relaxed. It turns relaxation into a sport (I'm not sure how I feel about that). But I liked watching the monitor and seeing the line flatten out as I stilled my thoughts and became more present. It's worth checking out. They do habe a free day once a month (sorry, don't know which day it is).

Shelley, WOW. Thanks for the info, especially the retreat. I'm checking with the my office (make sure no crazy deadlines that week) then booking the retreat tomorrow! Crazy thing is, I lived with in an hour drive of Spirit Rock (where this guys is a founding teacher) for number of years. Too bad I wasn't meditating then.

Thank you Scott. Next time I will talk less. Just been at this a bit and there is a lot of stuff out there so I am glad knowing where to locate it is of benefit.

It's a little pricey but lots of great reviews. And, hey, got to spend that vacation money on something. ;)

Hi Angela- I do not know how things went using a coffee house for the meet-up, and Bergie's owners were open to us coming down in a group and doing a half hour sitting meditation and bringing cushions, then discussion with coffee afterwards on the nights they did not have events. I can give you the e-mail for the owner if you liked that coffee house and want to get an OK for a Friday with the owners to make sure they have nothing else scheduled like a coffee bar band. Bergies does not really have Sunday hours. Coffee Rush has a nice patio and great Sunday hours.

      - So I know it says needs a location, and wanted to support your efforts by giving input. I know it is hot this time of year and a park may not be comfortable. If the groups wants a sit in addition to a discussion, I am sure the owners can be reached to see if they are OK accommodating a group taking over a portion of their patio for a bit if it is not one of their rush-hour busy times. Congrats on stepping up.

Hey All, for those who attended the last (first) initial meet up, I had mentioned a person in Tempe who opened her home for evening silent meditation one day a week. But she had stop the sits for a while. We'll, she's back (see link below). This will be a 40 min silent sit (used to be 60, she tried the time to make it less intimidating). I'll be there. Hope to see some of you.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
