Join us for some meditation instruction and sitting at the Haku-un-ji Zen center in Tempe (http://www.zenarizona.com/). The first hour will be orientation by the resident monk that includes the various postures and breathing techniques used in sitting and walking meditation, as well as a basic explanation of Buddhist philosophy. Then there will be an hour of sitting and walking meditation followed by a Dharma talk, some chanting and the opportunity to ask questions (see the daily schedule section in their website for details). They will provide mediation cushions for us but feel free to bring your own.
The center is located in a residential area and looks like a regular house (there are no signs). The actual practice is held in a small temple in the back yard. It is a white house with reddish-brown trim. Please park in front of or along side the zen center, not in front of the neighbors. Walk through the driveway to the back porch.
Make sure to wear clothes that are loose and allow you to breathe easily and to bend your knees easily. Also, you won't wear your shoes into the zendo so wear shoes/sandals that you can get in and out of easily. Socks are ok if you want to wear them.
If there is enough interest we will go have brunch afterward.
Hope to see you there!
