"What the Buddha taught" - Book discussion 1/6

  • August 17, 2014 · 4:00 PM
  • Costas' house

This will be the first of six meetups to discuss "What the Buddha Taught" a classic introduction to Buddhism by Walpola Rahula. The book covers primarily the Four Noble truths, the doctrine of non-self and meditation. It is a short and to the point overview of the very basic Buddhist tenets, written in simple and direct language.

In this first event we will discuss Chapter 2, "The First Noble Truth: Dukkha" but I encourage you to also read Chapter 1, "The Buddhist attitude of mind" although we won't be specifically discussing it. We will cover chapters 3 through 7 in the next five events. I plan on scheduling one every two weeks.

If you decide to attend an event please make sure you read the corresponding chapter so you can participate in the discussion.

The book is available electronically for free (see for example here and here) and you can also buy it in print and on e-readers.
