The Eagle Mountain Writers Workshop, founded in 2007 by Cairol Dawson, is a fellowship of writers dedicated to excellence in writing and critiquing across all genres and with no censorship. During a meeting, each writer who wishes to read his work explains what he wants the group to pay special attention to and the kinds of critiques he wishes to receive, then reads his piece aloud. Afterwards the group discusses the piece in a constructive manner. If nothing specific is requested by the reader, members offer an overall critique which may include, but is not limited to: showing vs. telling, continuity, plot gaps, character development, technique, and flow of language and action.
Expectations: Criticism of others’ work should be kind but helpful. Upon receiving criticism, the member must not overreact or become emotional in response to honestly-given critiques.

Dues: None, but donations to the church ($2-5 per meeting) and non-perishable food items for the church’s charity pantry are encouraged.
Who should join: Writers 18 or older who are committed to their work and earnestly desire to be published. They should also wish to give feedback to fellow writers, be open to all genres of writing, and be eager to learn, as well as teach what they know. Members must be able, and should be determined, to attend meetings regularly. Please note that writing of any kind is acceptable, without censorship.
We encourage visitors to bring a written piece, no longer than 18 pages double-spaced, with 6 copies to share with the group.
