Thanks Mark from Bob Halverson --- a new member.

Suggestion: It would be great if the person volunteering to present for a given meeting night would state whether they would like either: "help" or a "partner" or they would rather do it "alone"?
In addition, would there be enthusiasm for having a sign-up sheet for "snacks". Seems we're fortunate enough to have a meeting place and coffee, all at the right price.
Also, giving a hint regarding "subject matter" when a person signs up as a host/presenter would nail down a "general area for presentation", which then would leave other areas open. Maybe those subject areas could be listed on the Club Meetup page when established.

I suppose I'm selfish however sometime I would like to see the following subjects presented and/or discussed:

  1. Large format ---- we could have fun here if we could get a digital back on loan. I've got a 4 X 5 view camera with 75mm and 150mm lenses and a good tripod. I'm only set-up for film but a digital back could be used for architecture or copying --- which is something I'd really like to do. Maybe we could discuss buying a used digital back or get one on loan from someone for our club meeting ... http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/4x5.htm
  2. Male portraiture --- we could have fun here if we could get a digital back tethered to a computer program for editing while we shoot
  3. Female portraiture ---  we could have fun here if we could get a digital back tethered to a computer program for editing while we shoot
  4. Studio lighting
  5. Macro
  6. Landscape
  7. More Black and White, which could to take the class held this month to another level..
  8. Building a small B&W darkroom for film developing such as in a bathroom or large closet.
  9. Photoshop
Again, I'm new to the club ...

                                                        Regards,

Hey everyone!

A while back we decided to cease holding club meetings during the summer months: June, July, August.  A few minutes ago I removed those club meetings from our calendar.  You should receive an email that is a notification of each cancellation.

As a club, we need for members to step up and help make things happen.  I no longer have the time to coordinate, plan, and present nine to twelve meetings a year.  We created the club with the intent that it is a community of photographers (beginner to expert) sharing experience, techniques, and vision.  The key part of this is “community”.  We need everyone to participate to ensure the survival of the group.

About five weeks ago I sent a message to everyone asking for nine people to volunteer to be responsible for putting together one meeting in the coming year (September 2013 to May 2014).  I also asked for input from the group on subjects or topics for meetings.  So far the response has been less than encouraging.

No one has volunteered to take on a meeting.

I received two meeting suggestions: HDR shooting and studio lighting.

As it stands right now we have no meetings planned for the future

Please consider volunteering to organize one meeting in the coming season. It is not necessary for you to be an expert in a particular subject.  You don't have to lead the meeting yourself.  Some of our best meetings have involved guest speakers or guest presenters.  You can arrange a subject matter expert to attend the meeting or arrange for the group to shoot at a special event or location.  Putting together one meeting a year is not a big deal.

Perhaps it is time to create a slightly more formal club structure by selecting a couple of officers.  Please share your thoughts with the group.

I hope to hear from you all soon.

Marco
