LOVE YOUR IDEA KATE (BBQ TO PLAN)

TO ALL MEMBERS: I have a video conferencing system it works via email so you do not need any software to down load this system will accept up to 100 persons at a time

I propose that we do one of two things :

Have a live meeting and any one who CAN NOT COME will be there via internet ( all you will need is a computer / webcam / internet connection )

OR
Just have a meeting via internet -
WE SET DATE AND TIME  - all who wish to attend send me email and I will send the link on the DATE AND TIME

I can give control to who ever is running the meeting OR I can run it

It also has a text box for written questions and notes  and anyone who doesn't have webcam

We can discuss all items, someone can be the sectary (take notes date times etc)

I've only attended one meeting, but that's because my first kiddo was born in the beginning of January and i've been quite busy since.  I'd love to attend more meetings, but it seems as if there aren't many to attend.  Just got this email chain and I'm finding it hard to follow - but if i'm right the gist is that there won't be any summer meetings, but some need to be planned for the fall?

questions - is there a location for meetings to be held or would that be part of the planning process?
ideas -
i think it'd be great to have a club calendar, if there isn't something already like that
photoshop - how many people have access to this and getting together figuring out how to use it
Also i recently downloaded free software GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program.....a meeting could be just talking about the different softward available for editing and how to use it.

some fun meetings would be to go out and shoot  - i'm not sure why summer meetings aren't held, some of the nicest weather is Alaska summers!

trips: "hide and seek" - macro shots of litte hidden things at potter's marsh?
another idea at potters marsh is just bird shooting
a hike along powerline pass might be fun
portage glacier

some technical ideas:
camera swap or lens swap - bringing your cameras and lenses and partnering up with someone teaching each other things you know about your camera and lens - opening up idea for lots of people, beginners and experienced folks

filters - what filters are out there and what to use them for, practice using them comparing shots with and without

types of lenses - fisheye, wide angle, macro - comparing shots

i don't know just some ideas to throw out there and maybe MArco could you let us know what the goal is - what months need filling, what the date would be and if there is a set location available or if it'd just be a free for all?

Maybe first plan should be to regroup - meet at someone's house or something for a potluck/BBQ  this summer and just kind of plan and organize, sign up for meetings to host and get things in order for all of next year.

Hey everyone!

A while back we decided to cease holding club meetings during the summer months: June, July, August.  A few minutes ago I removed those club meetings from our calendar.  You should receive an email that is a notification of each cancellation.

As a club, we need for members to step up and help make things happen.  I no longer have the time to coordinate, plan, and present nine to twelve meetings a year.  We created the club with the intent that it is a community of photographers (beginner to expert) sharing experience, techniques, and vision.  The key part of this is “community”.  We need everyone to participate to ensure the survival of the group.

About five weeks ago I sent a message to everyone asking for nine people to volunteer to be responsible for putting together one meeting in the coming year (September 2013 to May 2014).  I also asked for input from the group on subjects or topics for meetings.  So far the response has been less than encouraging.

No one has volunteered to take on a meeting.

I received two meeting suggestions: HDR shooting and studio lighting.

As it stands right now we have no meetings planned for the future

Please consider volunteering to organize one meeting in the coming season. It is not necessary for you to be an expert in a particular subject.  You don't have to lead the meeting yourself.  Some of our best meetings have involved guest speakers or guest presenters.  You can arrange a subject matter expert to attend the meeting or arrange for the group to shoot at a special event or location.  Putting together one meeting a year is not a big deal.

Perhaps it is time to create a slightly more formal club structure by selecting a couple of officers.  Please share your thoughts with the group.

I hope to hear from you all soon.

Marco
