We, the founders, crossed paths at a happy hour for the Washington Association of Professional Anthropologists (WAPA), which only several "early career" students and practitioners had attended.

We found a real common ground in that we are facing similar career-shaping decisions in an environment that seems quite different from what our professors and senior mentors faced.

And so, we've started this group for both practical and social purposes . . .

Practical, in that we would love to meet other students and professionals in the process of launching a career in anthropology, to network, ask questions, share decisions, and discuss how to find and use resources.

Social, in that we intend to check out various bars, restaurants, venues, and events of interest to members, and meet some of the eclectic mix of people who pass through this city. We may also read and discuss new ethnographies, books, and articles that have grabbed our attention.

We welcome a diverse group of anthropologists and anthropology enthusiasts, whatever mix of academic/theoretical and applied/practicing approaches they favor, and in any of the subfields: cultural, biological, archeaological, linguistic, and medical/ science and technology studies.

Members of the public are welcome to attend at any time--we are unintimidating and reasonably jargon-free, but we do care deeply about our favorite subject and subjects!
