This will a 6-8 mile loop starting in Fremont Older Open Space Preserve with a very approximate 1200 feet of elevation gain. We will start by heading up to Hunter's point, continue to Coyote Ridge, hike down into Stevens Creek County park, past the reservoir, and back up into Fremont Older again. We may also make a short side trip to Massie's Peak, the highest point in Fremont Older OSP at 1025 feet. We will get some nice views at both peaks as well as well as along the top of Coyote Ridge.
Here is the official map for the two parks, but I wasn't able to map our route on it. I will bring marked maps tomorrow.
Directions: From Highway 85 at the Cupertino-San Jose border, take the De Anza Blvd exit, go south 0.5 mile to Prospect Rd, and turn right. After 0.4 mile the road turns to the right and you come to a stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign to stay on Prospect Rd (you will be crossing the railroad tracks here). Just past the Saratoga Country Club you will see a small sign on your right designating the turnoff for Fremont Older Open Space Preserve on your left. Note that you will be turning left to stay on Prospect Road (if you continued straight you would be on Rolling Hills Rd). Follow this road to the parking area. I like to park on the side of the parking lot away from the sign indicating the possibility of golf balls hitting your car from the Saratoga Country Club.
Facilities: There is an outhouse next to the parking lot (one of the more reasonable ones since they clean it regularly). But there are no water fountains.
