Phleger Estate and Huddart County Park loop hike

This is a 7.9 mile loop hike with 1500 feet of elevation gain through Phleger Estate and Huddart Country Park (two adjacent parks).

Our hike will start in the rugged terrain of Phleger Estate. We will explore a serene forest of coast redwoods, climb the rugged eastern side of Kings Mountain on the aptly named Lonely Trail, then descend through the heavily wooded Huddart County Park and ascend back up to Skyline Blvd.  Not a great hike for views, but a fabulous hike for appreciating what's going on in the woods:  the morning light through the trees is gorgeous.

Driving directions:

From the south: Take Interstate 280 to the Woodside Road exit (California Highway 84). Go west through town of Woodside for about 1.5 miles, then turn right on Kings Mountain Road; stay on it till it reaches Skyline Blvd (Hwy 35), turn right and go 0.3 mile. The parking area on Highway 35 is three-tenths of a mile north of Kings Mountain Road on your left.

From the north: Take Interstate 280 south. Take Hwy 92 toward Half Moon Bay. Stay on 92 for 6.7 miles. Turn left onto Skyline Blvd, Hwy 35. Drive 6.5 miles south to the parking area just 0.3 mile north of the intersection with Kings Mountain Road. The parking area will be on your right. You might need to go to the intersection with Kings Mtn Rd and turn around in order to recognize the parking area unless there are already cars there.

Note: This parking area is actually the southern trailhead for the Purisima Creek Redwoods OSP:  it's a dirt lot under redwoods, with room for about 10 cars.

Wonderful new additions to the group, excellent weather, and Perry. Doesn't get much better than that.

    Hi, Folks:
I noticed an error in the hike description: as you drive north on Skyline the parking lot is on your left: coming south, it's on your right. It's a dirt lot under a bunch of redwoods and serves as the southern trailhead for the Purisima OSP. We'll start the hike by turning our backs to Purisima and carefully walking across Skyline. See you Sunday morning!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
