Early Stage Code Infrastructure Decisions

  • February 18, 2014 · 6:00 PM

Congrats, you just won TechX, now you have to build your software product. Problem is there're so many technical choices to make that you seem paralyzed. Eg, language, source control repository, platforms, metal vs virtual, cloud vs desktop vs mobile, and on and on.

The purpose of this meetup is to explore the state of the art in technologies along each of these parameters to aid the early-stage CTO in making more informed build decisions.

Side note: For the Data Scientist meetup group I'll generally create an outline, find a speaker and help them get prepped for the presentation. Given the deep skill set of this CTO group, I wonder if anyone would be interested in presenting for this one? Have you made these decisions recently? Are you uniquely qualified to present? No worries, we know there are a lot of options and no one technology decision is best; so tell us how you solved this problem.

Hey there, everyone! Is this metope still active?

I would be happy to present at some point - I have existing case studies & presentations on real companies using both Groovy/Grails and RoR technology stacks.

Great Marcia! We have a couple people who are interesting in presenting for this meetup. I would love to chat to you more about a topic /presenting for the next event.

Hey everyone, John was kind enough to add Peter and myself as Co-Organizers. We will work on finding a location and a new date for this event and will post it soon. We had 1 or 2 volunteers to give this presentation in the past. If anyone is able to present please reach out. Thanks!

Hi, apologies all, but work has gotten intense. If someone would like to be a co-organizer I'm happy to promote so we can move this meetup forward.

Lack of response by the organizer suggests it isn't, and never will. Which is actually quite sad.

Maybe we should do it anyway. Would anyone be up for 6PM at Tico in the Back Bay?

It seems we are all too busy making decisions...

The likelihood that this meetup ever happens is spiraling towards zero.

The meeting is tomorrow. Please setup a location or cancel today.

This group seems hopelessly disorganized. The meetings keep getting postponed without speakers or meeting locations.

Still need a space? I can see if MassChallenge's event space is available.

Is this on or not? Each other time it has gone until the day of and then been cancelled. If this is on, where is it going to be? If not, please announce now.

    Any update on location?

I was just at a great meetup in Harvard Square at the Hong Kong, upstairs. Would that work as a location for this group? http://www.hongkongharvard.com/...

I am very interested in the topic, but at this point I am even more curious about whether or not the Meetup will happen.

Still no location? It's inconvenient to make a plan without a location. I'm gonna have to bail on this.

Didn't you just reschedule the Data Scientists meet up for this day? (I was going to that one.)

Plus, I can do this presentation.

    • Jillian K.

I'm not sure. I'm not actually an organizer but may request to be one so we can make this happen. I work out of a co working space in back bay that we should be able to use as well, depending on how many of us there are. I'm going to msg the host and see what we can do.

Well, I can certainly give this talk, and I can get a venue.

    Please announce venue please...

Has a venue been determined? I'm interested to attend, but need a location to schedule.

Hi, all -- I've heard that Andala Cafe in Cambridge (Central Square, a block or so from the T) is a good place for Meetups because they have a large room in the lower level that can be taken over for private parties. It's probably too late to reserve for tomorrow, but maybe this meeting could be rescheduled for that location? Or for the next one? I have no idea if they have a minimum or whatever, but I know the location has been used in the past for Meetups.

Sorry but I am going to have to bail on this one. The topic sounds great, but without a location I have no way of making plans.

So do we want to just hang out at Pizza Hut? We're getting awfully close to the event time.

    Any update on the location?

Hi, is there a location for this meeting? Thanks!

@Tim Bond. Actually, Tim, this is exactly the problem faced by a new CTO/CEO, and I actually think it's a fungible topic, that can be discussed. It's simply matching startup MVP & domain to technologies, and assessing risk of using those technologies vs. others.

    November 15, 2013

    • Tim B.

I agree it is problem faced by a new CTO/CEO. If you want to take up the challenge and present on the subject go right ahead.

  • Keo

I'd like to attend. I'm a novice android developer looking for a CTO co-founder. Working on a peer to peer social commerce platform a major trend today in ecommerce and mobile. If you got the coding skills, lets talk. I'm very knowledgeable on technology, and what it takes to scale from zero to infinity. email me [masked] and we can move onto skyping or phone and meetups.

I agree with Tom, lots of stuff, so this event could show the big picture of what it takes to get to decisions and then dive into more specific pieces with follow up events.

    October 15, 2013

  • Tim B.

This seems like a huge topic. Maybe we should bite off some smaller pieces to start?
