Friday/Saturday night campout at Fossil Creek. Need to determine carpool site.

Stephanie,  Talked to Forest Service today and here's the details.  There's no advanced reservations available-first come first served.  Should be open though both weekends of 08/24 and 08/31.  No fires, no facilities other than outhouses.  Best to take water since travertine can be filtered but will have a mineral taste.  Designated camping areas-can park near tent sites.  Are has a limit on cars which on weekends has sometimes been met by around 9am on a Saturday or the same on a Sunday-closed to more entrants at that point.  Would suggest heading up on Friday early evening and pitching at night.Only entrance open is from 260 east of Camp Verde.  Overall about a 2+ hour drive from valley to camp sites.  Signage there pointing out different swimming holes and trails.  You can walk to all of the pools.Would recommend hikes for early morning with heat or evening.  Bouldering over water, rope swings, cliff jumping all part of the fun.  Verde hot springs is not too far away.  Once there you could stay 2 nights and head out on Sunday.  I think the limit is 100 cars which helps keep the crowds somewhat controlled.  Several camping areas.  Call me or email if there's something I left out.  I'm open to either weekend but would suggest 24th-25th since the next one is Labor Day and it might hit the limit sooner.  That would give us over a 3 week notice on the exact date and you already tentatively posted it for late August.  Sorry for the delay in getting back to you with details.  But Fossil is a magical place.  I had a former girlfriend who was part of the restoration project and was interviewed in the film about it which was narrated by Ted Danson.  It shows what can be accomplished when govt. works with business and environmental groups toward a common goal.  Maybe I could find the film and people could view it before hand-just an idea-movie night.  There's quite a bit of stuff on the internet. Might want to check your Meetup tech. I haven't been receiving any posts, and somehow got Glenn riled up about being "noncommittal". The responses I posted didn't show up either. I hope this one goes through.

Looks like there's been some drop off and that we're down to 3-me, Mark and Mychael. If it's just the 3 of us we could take one vehicle-possibly mine-Forester-suggest SUV and you could park on my block for the two nights or perhaps drop one car at Camp Verde. Can Mychael and Mark get in touch with me and confirm. [masked],[masked]

Thanks Denise for arranging a carpool. Thinking of the Fry's at Bell/17 as a final meet up spot since we have to go up 17 to 260 exit in Camp Verde. Don't know what kind of car you have but expect a rough road.
I can take my Forester if necessary. Would hope to take as few cars as possible. I could take men and women.

Yes, I would probably go up early Friday and can take one or two female riders with me from the Thomas/101 area.

Love Fossil Creek! Consider Larisa and I there if it doesn't cross wires with work schedules.
