Workshop: Earthship Addition

Buena Vista, CO

August 17th @ 10AM - 18th @ 10AM

Hosted by: Keith Hughes

Game Plan: Help fabricate an Earthship already under construction in Futurity Colorado near Buena Vista. Pounding tires for the addition while mining dirt for tires will be the primary focus. Solar oven, propane grill and gas stove on site. If you have extra tires - bring them along! And bring wine bottles! Size preferred is 225/75/R15.

Camping: The area around the Earthship is very steep and rocky which will not support campsites, but you are welcome to sleep within the Earthship on the flagstone floors. Since the first visit, we've identified the best spot to camp which is roughly one mile from the house; a large grassy flat spot where many tents can be placed. We will locate the communal campsite in this area for those wanting to hammock or tent camp during their visit. As it is with most camping, but primarily from the altitude of this site, dew will accumulate on your tent throughout the evening. There is also the potential for mild showers while sleeping.

Materials to bring: Gloves, safety glasses and/or sunglasses, sunscreen, sun hat, camping supplies

Amenities to bring: Bring any food you'd like and if you'd like to share, bring some extra. No food necessities will be provided. Don't forget to bring lots of water, as well.

Location: Futurity Colorado is near the end of County Road 185C near Buena Vista. The location is 1.5 miles southeast from there.  Beyond Futurity (last 2 miles) 4x4 is required, but carpooling can be organized to get the car drivers to the site. Washboard dirt roads with a few areas where streams dip are the only obstacles for cars.

Carpooling: Please organize carpooling through the comments section.

Weather: It is nice and sunny this time of year, but given the altitude you can bet on cold nights and morning dew. Chances of rain showers are random, but happen.

You can camp Friday night or come up and anytime Friday or even early. Need all the help i can get. Bring cans if you got them. Bring warm weather and cold weather clothes, gloves, boots, sunglasses, food water, spirits, sleeping bags, pad, tent if camping outside (space inside is cramp but cozy)You might be able to make it to my property but the last 500 feet you need clearance to make some of the high spots.

Looks like I won't be able to attend this! I'm going to be working 3 days at the Rocky Mountain Air Show setting up booths and manning a chef's spot in one of the hangars. :(

    Enjoy the fun without me!
