• Have you been inspired to grow your own food?

• Want to learn about Permaculture?

• Do you have access to a yard or a balcony?

• Want to get your hands in the dirt this summer and enjoy your own harvest?

Come join us for a two-part workshop with master gardener Tom Marcantonio. If you attended his 10 Meter Diet talk last December and were motivated to try your hand at growing your own fresh, organic food, or if you want to learn the basics of Permaculture design and try it out in your own space, then this is for you.

This two-part workshop will consist of:

Part 1- In advance, you will measure your growing spaces. You will dream up the kinds of edible, ornamental and medicinal plants and herbs you'd like to grow, with the help of several links to online resources, which will be sent out before the event. It is suggested that participants use these resources to whet their appetites to plants which grow well in our climate or are local/native species.

Part 2- When we meet, Tom will give us a beginners' tutorial of Permaculture basics and help us to understand how to work these principles into our own garden plan. Graph paper will be provided to sketch your spaces to scale, and we'll do the work of mapping out our gardens. Tom will be on hand to circulate and guide our process, give us individual instruction, suggestions and tips, and to answer any particular gardening or Permaculture-related queries we may have.

In the end, we will come away with a workable plan from which to begin our 2014 growing season in the Permaculture way.

~ Refreshments in the form of cookies, juice and tea and coffee will be served. If anyone has a particular food allergy, please let me know ahead of time. Graph paper will also be provided, but bring your own pencils and erasers please. Directions will be sent out to attendees a few days before the event.

Really great afternoon in enjoyable company! I was happy to have Tom go through some basic Permaculture concepts and be reminded of what my own goals are in why I'm planting- food, independence, beauty, tranquility, privacy and gardening skills-building for myself and my little girl. From the big picture to the small details... It was helpful to see Tom's grading system for ascertaining the progress of development of one's garden; what aspects/goals are important, how one did towards attaining these, and how far away one still is with each element. Overall, a nice meeting with paper and pencils in hand. I saw many of your drawings and was impressed with the work you have planned. We hope you all came away with some design development, new ideas and inspiration towards starting your growing this spring. It will be interesting to hear how things went for you all next autumn. Photos to be posted soon- as always, if anyone objects to having their image online, please let me know.

Did everyone get the email I sent out with the links to Zone 4 species and asking you all to measure your growing spaces/take note of buildings, trees, southern direction? Also, can anyone pick up Gavin?
