Build a REAL Network! Facebook and Linkedin are great ways of keeping track of the contacts you already know. However, they are not a great way to build a larger circle of powerful women who can help you in your career and life. ASWA is a growing network of East Bay Accounting and Finance Women who want to help each other and learn from each other.
Learn something New! Every single meeting has an informational topic with a speaker. Even when the topic has been something I knew pretty well, I always walked away with one new piece of information. Other topics I’ve come away with many new learnings. So in short: come to a meeting- you will learn at least one new thing!
Strengthen the contacts you have! In my line of work, I often encounter other professional women whom I like and would like to get to know better- but who has time? With families and work, it’s sometimes difficult to make space to have lunch/ drinks with someone you would like to know better. I love having a standing meeting each month that I can invite these people to. It’s a great way to give back to them, by helping them build their careers and network- plus you get to know them outside of the office.
