Lunch and a Stroll (Albany)

Let's go out to eat and then go for a stroll!

Potala Organic Vegan Cafe on San Pablo Avenue in Albany serves delicious food. This restaurant has ample seating for a potentially large group. It serves complimentary tea, has desserts, is all vegan, and it is unique in that it has a fixed menu. Examples are on their website. http://potala.us/ Examples include all of the following on your plate for one price (two meal sizes to choose from depending on your appetite): Navy bean veggie soup, Short brown rice, Garbanzo bean with tahini basil sauce, Sauteed cabbage, carrots, butternut squash and potato, Steamed collard green with onion miso beet sauce. Mixed green salad with brown rice vinegar parsley dressing. They have a small parking lot and there is street parking on San Pablo Avenue. Afterwards, we can stroll down entertaining Solano Avenue in Albany of which we can walk to from the restaurant. There is frozen yogurt for dessert on Solano Avenue as a possibility after lunch. The restaurant is underwhelming, however the area is busy; Solano Avenue is interesting with lots of shops/items to look at!

We will be in the restaurant at 12:00, eat first and then peruse down Solano Avenue so if you'll be late or want to join us after lunch please let me know and we can exchange cell phone info so we'll know where to find you. Enjoy the start of summer!

HI all. A note from one of the organizers: Looking forward to Sunday. We will be located at the large group seating area which is in the middle of the restaurant (there are tables that are always set up for a large group so you'll see us - reservation is under "Alyssa.") They have a small parking lot and there is street parking available on San Pablo Avenue. We are meeting at noon and we can stroll down Solano Avenue afterwards for dessert at either the frozen yogurt place or at another cafe which has ample seating if there is interest. If you wish to have my cell number, please message me through meetup as I'd prefer not to publish it on this public site! Looking forward, there are 5 others attending that are not on meetup. We have met through the HSP gatherings that feature Elaine Aron over the past few years. If you are curious about those national gatherings, you can check them out at http://www.lifeworkshelp.com/hspgathering.htm ~Alyssa

I ate at Potola's today. The Sunday menu is always:
either medium or large serving of the following: Start with pinto bean soup; long and short mixed brown rice; Mung bean w/onion; Baked butternut squash, yam, carrots and potatoes; Steamed collard greens with mushroom onion sauce; Mixed green salad with beets--vinegar agave, olive oil dressing--cost $10.45
I though it was tasty enough, though on my way home I filled up with raw almonds and coconut water. Service is good.. Amiable owner, manager. Food is Tibetan..

One more thing.. the medium serving is quite ample.. In fact judging from others partaking who all ordered the MEDIUM, I realized I'd made the right decision. The Large would have been a doggie bag's supplement. LARGE is $12 and change.

By the way, no tofu or the like at Potola's.

Just wanted to mention that the outsider phenomenon is generic to this area.. compared to NYC. Back East people reach out more, get together without a big megilah, and make long-term friendships.

HI Shirley, Feel free to leave whenever you need to but I bet by 2:00 we'll be through with lunch/chatting which means by 5, I'm sure we'll be saying our goodbyes.
