UPDATE ~ Volunteer at Contra Costa Food Bank on a Weeknight

PLEASE GATHER AT THE VOLUNTEER ENTRANCE ON THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING WHERE THE TRUCK DOCK IS LOCATED.  DAN WILL BE WORKING WITH THE GROUP.  YOU WLL BE SORTING AND BOXING FOOD TO GET IT READY FOR DISTRIBUTION FOR THOSE IN NEED.  PLEASE DRESS COMFORTABLY AND WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES; TENNIS SHOES WORK GREAT!  FRANCOIS WILL BE HOSTING THIS EVENT.

Every day, thousands of people in our community struggle to meet their basic nutritional needs. You can make a difference right now.

Because you are so generous, we can maximize and multiply your gifts of food, money and time. In our hands, a one dollar gift turns into two meals for children, adults or seniors.

With your help, the Food Bank is leading the fight against hunger. Your help can bring immediate relief and hope to a family or individual who is suffering from hunger. The Food Bank has many giving options to meet the interests of our community of supporters.

Without the help of our partners and supporters like you, the work of the Food Bank would not be possible.

Let's give back to those in need and help at the Contra Costa Food Bank.

Great job to support the community in whatever way you can. The company where I work, we usually volunteer at the SF Food Bank every year.

    Can I bring my child?

I want to say that children have to be a certain age to attend; I would recommend contacting them at[masked]

I know that HS children can do it (and I want to say middle school as well) but I can't remember when my son volunteered with Religious school. I seem to think 7th grade...but it was too long ago to be sure

I'd love to do this, but had a back injury recently and can't do much lifting. Just wondering what kind of work we will be doing?

I did this a couple of weeks ago with another meetup group. They broke us into 3 main groups, first one sorted food, second verified sort was correct, third group placed in boxes. 2nd group is probably easiest on the back as you are just moving food from one waist high table to the next waist high table (and it is individual cans). Don't know if all volunteer times/days follow this pattern though

What Tyra said sounds pretty much like what you will be doing. You will basically be sorting and boxing food for distribution.

I would love to do this, but Tuesday doesn't work for me. Perhaps the next time!

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
