Beginner/Novice Bicycle Ride

Are you a Beginner/Novice bicycle rider? Please join us for a fun and leisurely bike ride on a sunny Saturday.

This will be a FLAT ride on the Contra Costa Canal/Iron Horse Trail paths with little to no car traffic. This will be at an easy, slow pace so beginners are welcome. Our group did this ride in March and it was easy to ride together and we had a lot of fun. THIS IS A NO DROP RIDE which means NO ONE will be left behind.

We will start in Walnut Creek at Heather Farms Park. We will meet in the back of the park, near the dog park at 9:00 am, near the entrance to the Iron Horse Trail. We will end in Danville, near their fantastic Farmer's market, next to Lunardi's. We can walk around and shop for fruits and veggies, or any of the fresh food readily available at the market. Or if you prefer, Lunardi's has a wonderful deli, salad bar and a few hot foods to choose from as well. Or just bring your own pre-packed lunch from home! We will then choose a nice spot to have lunch. or possibly ride down the street to the small park next to the Danville Library and enjoy a nice picnic lunch before working our way back to Walnut Creek. Total time start to finish is approximately 3.0 hours.

PLEASE NOTE: Rides will vary in difficulty and each rider needs to decide if they have the ability, skills and physical health to enjoy the rides.  Road biking is a dangerous sport and may be hazardous to your health.  Each rider needs to decide if they can handle the distance or get off the bike and walk, if need be.

Each rider should have and wear safety equipment, e.g., helmet, gloves, protective footwear (no sandals) and carry liquids (water).

WITHOUT A HELMET, you won't be part of our ride.

Hope you can join us!

Does anyone have a bicycle tire pump? My tires need some air.

When I say traffic I mean cars Meryl. Cars do a lot more damage then a baby stroller or another biker.

Hi Dorothy, yep your right! Cars do way more damage than cars!! This is a beginner bike ride. So we plan to stay on the bike path/trail away from cars. But you need to be careful because some people zig-zag and do not always pay attention to other people around them. I will talk about this before the start of the ride. Its gonna a a nice sunny day! :-D

Just an FYI -- I have ridden this route consistently for over 10 years.
The Iron Horse trail can be pretty dangerous between Alamo and Danville that time of the morning -- lots of walkers, dogs, young kids, and people paying no attention to others on the path. I think it's actually safer to ride in the bike lane along Danville Blvd.

Just what I need to start riding my bike again. I love to bike where it is flat and no traffic.
