"Bullitt" at The Paramount Theatre

  • The Paramount Theatre

  • In line in front of the theatre... Look for our group!
  • It's time to return to The Paramount Theatre in Oakland for another Fantastically Fun Friday Film event!

     BULLITT (1968) -
    Steve McQueen plays SFPD detective Frank Bullitt who goes after the underworld boss who had the witness under Bullitt's protection killed. Despite political interference from an ambitious District Attorney (Robert Vaughn) and the
    complaints of his long-suffering girlfriend (Jacqueline Bissett), nothing distracts Bullitt from his mission. Directed by Peter Yates, this is the movie that established the late, great Steve McQueen as a superstar. It's also the movie that features the most memorable car-chase scene in film history - ten solid adrenaline-inducing minutes of acceleration and deceleration, of smoking tires and screaming gears slamming up and down the roller coaster streets of San Francisco. If there was an Oscar for best stunt driving, Steve McQueen would have won it hands down. Yes, that's the star himself behind the wheel of that Ford Mustang! Bullitt did win the Academy Award for Best Film Editing.

    I highly recommend getting there early to purchase a ticket (box office opens at 6:00) as events such as this tend to sell out quickly! Let's meet up in the front of the theatre no later than 6:30 and secure a spot in line. Doors open at 7:00 pm and seats fill up fast! If you would like to go, but cannot get there by 7:00, please send me an email (through this MeetUp site) and I will see what I can do to make sure you can get in and sit with our group....

    If you have never been to the Paramount Theatre before, or have not yet attended one of the Friday night movies there, you are in for a treat!

    One of the nation’s most beautiful art deco theaters and a national landmark, The Paramount in Oakland is like stepping back into the past, into one of those glorious movie theatres of times gone by. The majestic lobby with its gold decor, curving staircases, and elegant lighting have a grand feel. When you enter the main theater itself, it's like walking into an art deco feast of the senses. Even the bathrooms and lounges are eclectic.

    Local history, art deco beauty and a classic film all for only a $5.00 admission! And they even sell beer, wine and a few other adult beverages in the lobby along with a few assorted movie snacks and small bags of popcorn, cheese popcorn and caramel corn.

    Film showings at the Paramount include a half-hour organ concert of classic songs (starting at 7:30), followed by cartoons, newsreels, clips of coming attractions, and even a raffle drawing with prizes such as dinners for two and other local attractions.

    Really, five dollars is all it costs to see a special one-night only screening of the classic film "Bullitt" on the big screen! You can't beat that deal! And it's Steve McQueen and car chases through the beautiful city of San Francisco!

    Greetings To All,

    It looks like we are down to 3 hardcore fans that will bite the Bullitt! LoL. I couldn't resist. :-)

    Unfortunately Ellen & Francois, I have some very disappointing news to tell you...tomorrow is a 'school day' and the only place I could find a hairy-chested,fire-breathing, V-8 Mustang was way over at the S.F. Airport and that ain't gonna happen!!! After the movie we can only have a meal/drink or go home quietly versus frightening the meek denizens of the streets of San Francisco. Maybe the next showing of this film we can all coordinate a fleet of mustangs/chargers and cruise after the show. Ya, we bad! LoL. :-)

    Ok, well if anyone still wants to join us I will be in the BoxOffice line at about 6:05pm. Look for the tall, dark, and handsome guy will the twinkle in his eye!

    Peace & Love,
    Chris D.{Disbanded Dilemmas}

    Greetings All,

    Oh my, it is only about 48 hours to this event and we only have 5 cool hipsters signed in!

    I'm not a big fan of classical movies but this film goes down smoothly like well-aged scotch. We have an epic 10 minute car chase scene, great street level shots of S.F., veteran actors, a mellow film cadence, and subtle progressive politics all in 1 movie! Oh, and just a tour of The Paramount Theatre itself is worth way more than our $5 spot. When was the last time you had such an outstanding value for your hard earned money!

    But, 'it's all in a city like Oakland'(that was my first response) you say? Well I say no worries to all my 'peeps' for I have you covered on eating, parking, and your safety.

    A} Eateries all within 4 blocks -
    * [I will be at the Box Office at 6:05pm,so come ask us to get a ticket for you and then go eat].

    2) Xolo Taqueria at 1916 Telegraph Ave

    Greetings Gang,

    Well I think this event's movie title has a double-action meaning and is an accurate arc of the fast and straight projection of the velocity needed and pointed target of my reloading friendships and scoping-out a fair damsel. Huh,say what???
    Didn't you see the homonyms of - bullitt & bullet?
    Translation - It would be nice to see you all again and I need get out of the house more often. LoL :-)

    Ok, buckle up kids for on the big screen we will careen thru the City, 92 octane burned fuel filling our nostrils, a cornucopia of complete combustion concerts, pounds of Goodyear rubber kissing the concrete, all with the cool chicks and cats of 1960's San Francisco as our cohorts!

    The men lower their Ray-bans as the ladies coo 'Stevie,Stevie'.
    Ya babe, I am In! LoL :-)

    Peace & Love,
    Chris D.{Dude Drives}
