Sunday Afternoon Soccer - Berkeley (2:00pm) [GROVE PARK]

Hey Everyone,

These Sunday games are now a combination of our group and another offline group. The other group usually brings about 4-6 players so to estimate how many players will show up just add that to our RSVP total. The game will only play if there are at least 8 players combined between the two groups.

BAD WEATHER PROCEDURE:

If there is lightning ~1 hour before game time then we will cancel the game for safety reasons.

When it rains before the game, if there's not an equal amount of sunshine to dry the field (i.e. 1 hour of rain then 1 hour of sunshine, 3 hours of rain then 3 hours of sunshine, etc.) then we'll cancel the game since this field can get pretty waterlogged.

BACKUP LOCATIONS:

If we're not there then contact me at[masked] (text or leave a message in case I don't have your number) to ensure that we are at the backup location at Washington Elementary in Oakland (http://goo.gl/maps/C7scE). The entrance is in the middle of 61st St between Shattuck Ave & Racine St.

Also, if you plan on attending and there's no event host listed for the game, if you'd be willing to help coordinate the game (make sure there's a ball to play, help decide how/if to split into smaller groups, answer any questions for new players, etc.) then please let me know so we can make sure the games go smoothly.

- Haydn

P.S. Bring a light- and dark-colored shirt if possible to make it easier to split up into teams.

The weather was perfect and we had about 24 players so we had two 6v6 games that went pretty well. The field condition right now is so-so but generally it's manageable. We also got to test out the new inflatable nets which held up pretty well so overall it was a good day!

I don't have cleats or shin guards.

People generally play fairly clean so shin guards aren't usually necessary (I never wear them), and it might be a bit harder without cleats or turf shoes but I'm sure you'll be OK with sneakers for today.

I'm 85% sure I'll be able to make it. Will be a bit late though!

I called Berkeley Parks and Rec. They said they were going to approve it.

I'll call during regular hours tomorrow and schedule one or two games.

Hey Stephen, is the field usually open on the weekends? We generally don't rent the fields unless we're playing at night and need access to lights.

I would like to play on Cesar Chavez Soccer Field near Fruitvale BART in Alameda. It looks like a nice field.

Hey Stephen, it does seem to be a nice field. If you'd like to play there then go ahead and post a game to the group (at least 1 week in advance to give people time to see it and respond) and see how many other people would be interested. The more games we can get going at different fields, the better!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
