1st Annual EBRC Nerdy Cosplay Field Day!

I have this posted on Facebook as a public event, so make sure you invite your friends sooner rather than later! Since we are hosting this, I will ask for volunteers when we get closer to things! Here's what's on Facebook:

This is the event page for the 1st Annual EBRC Nerdy Cosplay Field Day!

EBRC is East Bay Renegade Cosplay and while we have been around for about a year now we have over 100 members on our Meetup.com site and continue to host all kinds of cosplay related events. This is going to be an all-ages cosplay event jam-packed with nerdy contests and activities! Since this is the first year that we are hosting it, I wasn't sure how much interest we would have so I have reserved a spot at a mid-sized park. So despite reserving the largest space there, there is an event capacity limit of 300 people. This means that to ensure you get a spot you should pre-pay for the event using the link below. (Which will also help me to purchase food, awards, etc.) I will be putting up a schedule of activities when it gets closer to the event as well as sign-ups and other details, but so far we have been kicking around the ideas of a costume contest, a nerdy fashion show/competition, trivia contests, photo shoots, cosplay photography contests and a myriad of other activities!

Date: June 8, 2014

Time: 10:00AM – 6:00PM

Place: Larkey Park, Walnut Creek, CA

Park Address: 2771 Buena Vista Ave, Walnut Creek, CA Park Map and Directions: http://walnut-creek.org/documents/Recreation/Picnics/LarkeyParkMap.pdf Picnic Site: Group Site A+B

Fee: $5 per person. This will (hopefully) cover the cost of the picnic site, food, drinks and the awards for the many contests taking place during the field day! Here's the link to pre-pay for the event: http://www.eventsbot.com/events/eb855282086 There's also an option to purchase a booster ticket which will get you a special little trinket at the event, but will mostly just help us cover our costs. If you're willing and able to get one of those tickets it would be greatly appreciated! :) Parking: It's free, but there isn't a whole lot of it in the lots. Fortunately, there is quite a bit of street parking, so carpool if at all possible :)

Please make sure you adhere to the following rules:

- This is going to be at a park where there are lots of families. This means no overly revealing or sexually suggestive costumes (not a time to drag out your Witchblade costume) or excessively dangerous weapon props. NO LIVE STEEL WEAPONS. NO GUN PROPS AT ALL. Also, this includes Nerf guns, water guns, and other disruptive toys like that. Anything shaped like a gun is NOT allowed. Use common sense with this one guys! If you think it's questionable, then it's probably not something you should bring!
- We will be in public, so please do not bring any alcohol, drugs, or other substances of that nature. And don't come to the park under the influence of anything. I'd think that would go without saying, but just in case!
- Once again, public, all-ages event! So don't be an idiot! It's just that simple!

Thanks so much for your interest! Can't wait to see you there!

Loved seeing all the costumes and chatting!! Hope to see some of you at the Pirate Festival this Sat and Sun in Vallejo. I know you will be there, Dan.

Pirate Festival?! D'oh! Gotta remember that one for the future when I can afford the gas! So much fun to have!

It was great to see everyone! I wish we could have stayed longer, but it was so hot, my glue was melting! (The drive back home was miserably hot, too!)

I had a great time and premiered my latest fursuit Dagnabbit Rabbit and won a prize! Thanks to all who organized this! :3

It's so hard to imagine that it's supposed to get that hot tomorrow when it's so nice out today! Also it says partly cloudy and 96 degrees? How is that supposed to work?? LOL

Despite the predicted heat, come and have fun anyway! It'll be a blast to meet you all! :3

Weather.com is predicting temps in the area pushing 105 degrees so I won't be suiting up. A warning for others that if your costume is hot and heavy this will be dangerous weather to dress up in, and everyone will need plenty of water! I'm still going of course! Hope to meet everyone though I'm severely hard of hearing so communication is difficult.

Sorry to hear about the dogs issues.

For others, bring your costumes regardless, even if just to show them off what you made, etc. And some can dress up but just for a short while. In theory I can suit up myself (in the shade obviously) but not wear it for very long despite being a partial. My full suits would be extremely dangerous in that weather. Come on God! Bring on the air conditioning!! :3

Since you said it was at a park... Would it be possible to bring my dog?

    1 · June 2, 2014

    • Caye

I don't see why not. As long as you follow the park's leash laws and stuff and it's a friendly dog then that sounds good to me :)

Sounds like fun! Too bad I can't make it :(. Good luck, and I hope more events like this are lined up.
