You don't have to drive to Balboa Park and fight for space with 60,000 other people in order to celebrate Earth Day.
Visit the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge on Earth Day and enjoy guided hikes to see rare and endangered species like the Least Bell's vireo and San Diego ambrosia. Participate in special nature activities for kids. Chat with Refuge staff who will be on hand to answer your questions about the refuge. Hikes leave at 9am. Park in the lot at the intersection of Campo Road and Singer Lane near the YMCA in Rancho San Diego. Come early for good parking. For more information, contact Cathy Chadwick, [masked] or[masked]-4715.
There are many hiking trails on the refuge and you can hike all the way to the Sweetwater reservoir if you want a hard core Earth Day hike that will take about two hours one way. There is parking across the street at the shopping complex but crossing 94 is dangerous so be careful. There is a path under the bridge that will make that crossing easier but it is not a formal path and requires walking across boulders.
We have many restaurants in the area like Carl's Jr., KFC, Taco Bell, Applebee's, Denny's, a great Thai place, a great Chinese place, sushi, a high end steak house etc .... If you have questions just ask.
Happy Earth Day!
