Gillespie Field Café - July 2013- 1st Friday Gathering

This month celebrates women in aviation. This is not a meeting, just a great way to socialize as a group. The event starts at 4:00 pm. The band starts at 4:30 pm. Get there when you can, many work and can't get there until a little later which is understandable. To find us look for our sign on the table.

Attend if you'd like to meet fellow flying enthusiasts. It's an opportunity to get up close to planes on display. If you prefer just to kick back, there's seating in the covered patio to watch planes take off and land. You might want to bring a chair just in case seating if taken.

Guest information from Air Group One: "Special guest, longtime pilot Fran Bera was named Pioneer in Aviation by Women in Aviation International and an Elder Statesman of Aviation by the National Aeronautics Association. Fran started secret flying lessons in high school and went on to a racing career.

Fran Bera was a member of a women's parachute troop in San Diego during World War II. The women were trained in first aid and would have parachuted behind enemy lines to care for the wounded, if necessary."

Possible airplanes on display are a PT-22, Citabira and an Electra. There could be others on display as well.

Music per cafe's website: Jack City Blues Band

"The Jack City Blues Band is a MULTI AWARD-WINNING band,  collecting awards at the Local, State and National levels.  Once known as  the popular country, blues, and western swing band, Grand Central  Station, the band competed with 42 states, winning Band of the Year honors  for the Country Music Associations of America at an awards ceremony held in Las  Vegas, Nevada."

An opportunity to dance on the tarmac.

The Cafe offers appetizers, a light menu, beer and wine for those of you who drink.

For specific questions please contact the cafe directly. Gillespie Field Cafe,[masked], http://gillespiecafe.com/

Please note: 1st Friday is a recurring event until further notice based on the discretion of Gillespie Field Cafe. I'll keep posting it monthly as long as they offer it.
