This looks like it might be useful?

Some of you may have the build skills to make one?

Pretty cool for a custom build thing and quite cheap considering.

Don't think my misses would like that hefty thing lying around tho!?

Seriously though. SFW plays D&D with me and I don't think even she would want that in our living room. But it dismantles? So there's hope smile

shock How rude! tongue

He has however made it so its portable so maybe its deconstructable aswell.

Offtopic: Regarding the whole under the thumb thing, why do many people external to a relationship miss interpret not being a dick and selfishly doing stuff without your other half as 'under the thumb'? Never understood that.

Nor have I.

Relationships are about compromise. People have said many times that I am under the thumb as well, when really I just take into account what we both want. Perhaps they are just jealous of a good relationship?

Back on-topic: if any Meetup member were to make this, I would be keen to see it in action.

That is soooo cool. We'd need a better mount though as the posts would get in the way - maybe ceiling suspension...

Pobman - who says you're under the thumb? I'll kick them in the teeth!

I think a ceiling mount would work by far the best - especially as this is a short throw projecter. Such projectors can focus really well and you could quite easily get a great result from a projection distance of 40" - 48", which is roughly where you'd be with a ceiling mounted projector. The game board would be really cheap and easy to make - educational supplies dealers sell good quality traditional whiteboard material cheap.

I am seriously tempted to give this a go - the biggest component cost is the projector - the model this guy got (522) is around the same price as another one (515ST) - the latter is only SVGA as opposed to XGA, but it does have a far better contrast ratio (which I think will be important) - they are both around the £360 - £370 mark (including VAT, which some people can reclaim) for places like http://www.projectors....

I have been looking around for good software though, and I haven't come across a feature set I really like yet. I need the software to be generic enough that it would be able to do all terrain types, including space (for Federation Commander for example), sea, desert, plains, woods, towns and of course dungeons and castles. I can't remember the last time I saw a review of software offerings - does anyone have any suggestions?
