"I now view my long road as a search for truth in my own heart, in the world around me, and in the bigger questions of purpose and of existence. How does one define good and evil?"

Daryss Necandra is dead. Well loved and respected noble of Amn, Daryss died calmly and painlessly in his sleep after a period of long illness. He left behind him, his wife and sixteen year old son; Meriannan and Barus. Athkatla - his primary home - Amn and indeed many of the cities on the Sword Coast mourn his loss with many ships and their captains are refusing to travel. Shops refused to for longer than three, maybe four hours a day, while tributes and notes and floral arrangements were piled before the doors of his vast Necandra estate. The City of Coin was at a virtual standstill.
A tenday later, a memorial event was announced in Baldur's Gate: a competition. You found that Duke Eltan, along with the Flaming Fist, had come up with the own way to honour the memory of Daryss Necandra; a competition, pitting the common folk against each other in friendly combat.

Daryss Necandra is dead.
Yes... we knew that already. But did you know that he has made plans against
staying dead and has resurfaced as a lich? Not quite the tale told at the beautiful rememberance ceremony some attended about a month ago. You also know that the story filtering northwards, and indeed the story told to everyone who came near the Competition is an utter lie. Blooded bedsheets, poison and underhanded dealings with the Shadowtheives are a far cry away from dying peacefully in ones sleep. Put that with the woeful story of his wife Meriannan who was forced to witness his decline from kind man, into cruel, cold and mostly absent husband, and it is not a plesant tale at all. But it makes a
exciting one to tell, of that you have no doubt.
Unfortunately the story is not true and there is now an angry lich on the loose, plotting apparantly revenge on the poor soul foolish enough to have poisoned him. Besides that, his phalactery is hidden somewhere between Athkatla and Waterdeep (presumably) and no one is certain of where. Well... there may be one man. A reclusive sage by the name of Talo living in Waterdeep.

You are tasked now to find this Talo and have him give more meaning to the strange map you found. And hopefully tell you were it as you seem to have no idea of which country this map shows. You don't have long. Though nobody has said it explicitly, Lithgan certainly appears concerned that to delay is to invite ruin.

Kane, Cal, Keldaar, Kaylan, Elessar and Lithgan are dead.

The party is faced with a new problem in the form of one of their number ruthlessly slaughtering several of their own side. Those left are now faced with the problem of what they must do to complete their mission and how they will return home afterwards, for not only did Lithgan betray the party, but he also wasted the single scroll which was intended to see them safely home, back to Faerun....
