When things are good they can be really good.

When they are bad however...

Travelling through the sewers beneath Spellgard wasn’t going to be particularly enjoyable in the first place but, the matter was made even worse by the shear amount of undead we had to face.

We entered into a room filled with crypts and immediately encountered a number of zombies and a wight of some kind. Aradon fought one zombie totally on his own and then was forced into single combat with the wight as well. The rest of the party were busy in combat with the other zombies while I spent several minutes attempting to scale the wall of one of the crypts in order to lend a hand to Aradon. I can truly say this, no matter how strong and powerful you may feel yourself to be attempting to climb a wall using only handholds while wearing scale mail armour is incredibly tiring work.

The encounter went so badly that even the mighty Gregg was felled for a time.

The battle was eventually won and the party set about “pillaging in an orderly fashion”.

Having found some arcane books I instructed Athon and Belgarath to study them and determine whether they would be of use. I decided that I would assist Athon in this endeavour and hopefully gather more information not only about our situation but, also more information about arcane magic in general. I probably should not have done this. It turns out I was more hindrance than help in this matter and Athon found himself on the wrong end of several explosions because of it.

In the meantime Zyanne had found a staff and lent it to Belgarath to investigate for her.

It was decided that we should probably camp “overnight” and get our bearings back and our strength up.

The next “morning” we decided to carry on but, discovered that the only way through was going to be by wallowing in the filths of the sewers and there was nothing that could be done to avoid it.

We followed the sewers for sometime and eventually entered into a room where the several paths of the sewer were overlapped by bridges which meant we could get onto dry land for a while. Unfortunately, this room was also occupied by undead creatures. Skeletons and a wraith this time.

Another encounter that lasted far too long and in which I was truly and utterly useless to my travelling companions. I will not go into a blow by blow account of the battle but, will say that it took far too long and by the end I was convinced that the Goddess had cursed me for some unknown transgression against her.

By the end I was begging Aradon to allow me the chance for an extended rest and a copious amount of prayer. He and the others were in a hurry to press on though and so despite our weakened state it was decided that we could continue into the next available room and would rest there if appropriate.

We encountered this room and found the door locked. Between Zyanne’s tools and Gregg’s foot the door was opened and we entered the room only to discover it occupied… yep you guessed it… by undead. This time a phantom warrior wearing the symbol of Bane upon his armour.

I’m not looking forward to the battle but, am uttering prayers to the Goddess under my breath this very minute hoping that she will lift her curse in time for me to actually be of use to my compatriots.
