Afternoon Jam in Zephyrhills

Hello Fellow Ukers!

Jackie Sickles, one of our Uke Club members, would like to invite the Uke Club to the afternoon jam at Waters Edge RV Resort in Zephyrhills, Florida. I guess they have gatherings there on a regular basis. There will be a jam at the park between 2 and 4 p.m.  This sounds like fun!!

The weather has been great lately. Bring your uke, music stand, and "Jumpin' Jim's Daily Ukulele" book!

Peace & Ukes,

Chyrisse

This is my last thought on the jam Sat. I have been in different kinds of jams for 30 or more years. The home host does NOT play the majority of the songs. They rotate and each person does 1 song. Our leader let us do 3 in a row. We were a group not individuals. If we would have done your ratio that would have been 46 songs we didn't have time for that. Would have been there all night. In a jam everyone plays for everyone. Our group could have plaed every song if they wanted, just like they played some of ours.that's why it's called a jam and you learn new songs and ways of playing. I'msorry if there was a misunderstanding. I honestly don't know what you expected. See you all in April.

it's Ok, you don't have to feel bad, and i don't mean to stir the pot, i'm just stating MY opinion to the survey done by meetup.com. it's just a different venue than 'we're' used to playing. i understood there might be folks there watching from the park, but i don't think anybody knew there was a full time home band in place! there was plenty of time for each member of the home band to choose a song but just 3 songs for the ukers after everybody on the home team had a turn? this didn't happen once, it happened twice.

that's what i said, the home band played 24 songs... we played 7 - still seems lopsided which ever way you slice it. and you're right, it was run like a regular jam where the home band played the majority of the songs which bring me back around to "didn't feel like were really wanted there" - 11 ukers showed up; why wouldn't the song ratio have been more like 24 and 22? again, it's all good, it's just a different venue than we're used to. chrysse runs her jams a bit different than TBUS and ya'll run yours different as well. it's all good - i just didn't like playing for 10 minutes then sitting around for 50 minutes. i see Dick's lesson on the circle of 5ths above which is fantastic, but i'm not sure how many OUR players are at that level yet.

During the song session I was trying to look at Page 9 in the "Daily Ukulele" which had chord transposing. I was attempting to play the dominant chords in the songs. I did feel kind of lost.

Sorry you felt that way, but we really wanted you there. We did the jam like we do every week. There was to many players to give each individual a turn. The people were glad to have something different. I suggested to our leader to have us as a group instead of individual. If you know the song you play,if you don't you listen and join when you can, just like every other jam.

It really wasn't what I expected but I enjoyed it. It was hard hard to hear each other though and we were not always in sync.

I THOUGHT IT WENT WELL CONSIDERING THERE WERE a lot of musicians and 2 different groups and only 2 hours to give time to each one.

Mollie and I will be there -- I seem to have a knack for picking songs that nobody knows, so I'm asking everybody coming to learn the melody (and chords) for "Away In A Manger" -- Beloff Book I, Pg 296 -- I'll have a handout with alternate lyrics available.

    February 11, 2013
