Lets meet on the topic of social coding and how GitHub.com makes it a powerful and simple process. We'll start with the basics; Why version control is important, and how it makes you more powerful (magical, even). We'll run through the history of version control and how we got to Git which is just one of many version control systems out there. GitHub is a service that is wrapped around Git and makes the whole process of writing software a breeze and a pleasure regardless of whether you're a solo developer or on a large team. By the time you head home you'll have a solid understanding of version control, what role GitHub plays and a bag of tricks to get you on the ground running right away.
The East Troy Computer Club is on GitHub at: http://github.com/etcc. If you are working on a community project or data that is useful to the local community, please do share it!
Bring a Cool Tool to show & tell and your cafe beverage is on the house. Tell us your GitHub username when you arrive--We have some GitHub stickers to give away.
Show up at 7pm. Talk begins at 7:30pm. We'll head across the street around 9pm for pizza and a pint at Sammy's Place. Since this meetup is on the topic of Social coding and GitHub specifically, it is more appropriate to call this meetup a drinkup. And yes, social coding will be taking place at Sammy's Place.
See you there. Don't forget your power adapter!
Hat tip to club memberJef Hegeman for the topic suggestion. What is your favorite octocat? (: https://octodex.github.com/
