Friday I'm in Love...With Boardgames

Friday Night Gaming Alert! Thanks to Elric and the crew at Jumpcut Café, we’re coming back to their wonderful establishment for another relaxed night of board gaming.

Food/Drink/Etc.: Feel free to bring games that appeal to you, and as always, we STRONGLY encourage you to patronize this small, independent business. It's around dinner time, and Jumpcut has yummy salads, sandwiches, coffees, etc. Elric, the manager, is being super flexible with his cafe's hours and they're staying open later JUST for our meetup. So let’s make it worth their while. Be prepared to make food and/or beverage purchases.

Parking: Jumpcut is located on the north side of Ventura Blvd., roughly between Fulton and Coldwater (specifically, its nearest cross street is a little street called Mary Ellen Ave.) Since it's a Friday night, street parking is FREE after 8pm, so please feed your meter up until 8pm. The cafe's parking lot is directly behind it, but it only has a few spaces. Many of the side streets are permit-parking only for residents, so check Ventura for the best parking situation. Personally, we’ve parked on the south side of Ventura directly across the street (unmetered!) from Jumpcut and jaywalked, but we don’t condone illegal behavior such as this. *cough* If you're going to do that, just be careful because it's a busy Friday evening!

*Please note, you don’t have to commit to staying for the entire event (especially because it’s a Friday night, you’re coming from work and you might have other plans afterwards). Come for an hour, come late, drop in if you’ve RSVP’ed yes…as long as you show up and have some fun!

**Post-gaming drinks: All interested parties are welcome to head over to Casa Vega with Felicity and/or Kim for a drink afterwards. It’s within walking distance (Google Maps says it’s a 3 minute walk), a couple of blocks West on the Northwest corner of Ventura and Fulton. Drown your sorrows over that lost game of Word Thief! Raise a toast to the winner of Ticket to Ride! But please, no bar fights because you lost at Spot It - that’s too weird, ok?

Wanted to give a big thumbs up to all those I met, played and assisted me in understanding the games I played with/on Friday. I had a great time and am looking forward to our next meeting.

Thank U Felicity for the friendly welcome!

I looove that song. I was at a club when it first came out and they played it 3 times that night and I had no problem with it.

Karen I think you transmitted your bug to me through the internet because I've been under the weather since late Friday night.

Mary, I don't think that's how the interwebs works. ;-)

I had fun winning one (1) round of Bananagrams and playtesting my game with no game board, just a hastily drawn substitute. Thanks for the great ideas. Why did I wake up with a hangover when I had no alcohol? It was the tortilla soup.

I say, keep the barfing dog on your gameboard. That's my feedback. :-) (I'm so helpful.)

I agree and apparently I left my phone charger but the hosts were kind enough to remember it's mine and save it. Great event, great hospitality and beautiful personalities all around! I probably can't make
It for next week but I look forward to many more game nights ahead!

Are there any nerd games going on?

    August 8

    • Felicity

Bring whatever you'd like. I can't guarantee that people will play the games you bring, but ya never know...you might turn someone on to their new favorite game. :-)

      August 8

    • Abdullah F. K.

I would go get a BattleStar Gallactica board game if I found enough nerds up for it. Also, I've tried MTG a couple of times, but probably don't remember much past the basics, but I wouldn't mind trying again if you got an extra deck kimapult!

Games I'll bring tonight: Cards Against Humanity, Word Thief, Spot It (the hipster version), Scrabble, Word on the Street, Bananagrams, Taboo. If anyone would like to bring others to play, please feel free! After we're done at Jumpcut, remember that anyone who would like to can head west up Ventura to Casa Vega with me for a drink. Fair warning: their bar is usually pretty packed on weekend nights, so I make no promises about available standing/sitting room. Your mileage may vary. Batteries not included.

    1 · August 8

    • Jennifer K

I'll bring Quiddler, Five Crowns, and Sequence. Looking forward to it!

1 more thing: We've got a couple of people on the waiting list, so if you can't come, please update your rsvp asap from yes to no. Meetup will automatically email the first person waiting.

Mary, I'll play the game, and you don't have to bi me a drink, or bye me a drink, or buy me a drink. :-D
