This is a group for any friendly, single, experienced hiker over the age of 45, who is interested in hiking on the weekends. If you love being outside, making new friends, and you are active, but work takes up all your time during the week, then get out and join us for a weekend hike!
Hikes are generally in the category of moderate to difficult based on length and elevation gain. We are not a group of trail runners, but we are also not new to hiking! We keep a fairly steady pace, and we enjoy the scenery and each others' company. We hike as a group, no one will be left behind. Our focus is on the combination of exercise, enjoyment, and friendship!
We are not a “beginners” hiking group, but there are some great groups out there for beginners. We all had to start somewhere!
Most of our hikes will probably be considered moderate. I will try to schedule some challenging ones and some shorter, easier ones to give members some options. Read the hike description so you know the length and the elevation gain. Know your abilities! Then, you’ll be able to decide if your abilities match the hike. If you are not sure if you can handle the distance or the heart-pumping elevation gain, send me a message and I’ll try to help you figure it out.
If you sign up for a hike but find you will not be able to make it, please be sure to change your RSVP to “not going”, at least 24 hours in advance if at all possible, so someone else from the waitlist can move up and take your spot. This is very important for hikes in the Superstitions where groups are limited to 15. Please, be considerate of your fellow hiking members. No shows more than once will be removed from the group.
Please keep the following in mind as this is REQUIRED to hike with us :
· Bring plenty of water (about a pint per hour of hiking and hydrate before hiking)
· Wear hiking boots or shoes
· Post a recognizable photo of yourself so we know who to look for at the trailhead or carpool locations
· Be prompt (Yes, I know there are those rare events where something happens en route. If this occurs, try to email this site and let the hike leader know. Cell reception is not guaranteed in many of our locations.)
