PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE SET YOUR MEETUP NOTIFICATIONS ON IN YOUR PROFILE. WE DEPEND ON MEETUP TO KEEP YOU INFORMED, AND WE DEPEND ON YOU TO COMMUNICATE. THIS IS NOT A DROP IN KIND OF GROUP

A Sunday afternoon or Wednesday Evening, a beverage of your choice, a few snacks, a fantastic piece of playwriting, and a group of avid Voice Actors who've had fun reading well over 300 plays since 2010! What could be better?

Below is an extensive description of this group and its rules.
EastBay PlayReaders is a group for actors and experienced readers who are theater lovers and would like the social experience of group reading and performing, on zoom, script in hand or on device. The group is open to those who will commit to reading and understanding the play and being prepared with a part. This group requires EMAIL communication with the Play Reading Organizer in order to be cast in a role. In Person readings are in Alameda, CA. But we are excited that ZOOM has brought us readers from all over, who can cope with time zone changes.
Our readings are prepared (script edited), scheduled and cast. If you are looking for a "maybe I will stop by" group, please pass on us. Members who become cast and are no-shows, with no warning or explanation to the Organizer, will be removed from the group.

Typically an IN PERSON play reading will involve (1) social time to get to know each other (2) reading of the play(3) eating and drinking (4) discussion of the play for those who can stay. Our event is a potluck with everyone pitching in to supply drinks and snacks. Special needs folks should bring their own snacks.
Readings can include both readers and audience, if extra people want to sit in and listen.

CASTING: Plays are selected and pre-cast by the organizer, and scripts and cast lists are distributed at least a few days to one week in advance, so parts can be prepared.

I MUST HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IF YOU WISH TO BE CAST SO I CAN SEND YOU THE PREPARED SCRIPT.

The aim of casting is to produce the best overall reading of the play, to ensure a positive group experience. In a group with different levels of voice acting expertise, senior level voice actors or readers will normally get the heaviest roles. This serves to produce an exceptional reading, and also sets an example for others to improve their Voice Acting delivery.
Casting typically follows gender and character descriptions from the play itself, although exceptions are made. Requests to be cast in a particular role are usually welcomed and granted unless a role has already been cast.
Any issues with casting should be taken up privately with the organizer.
