An ex-English teacher and lover of words, literature and performance. Currently focussing on Storytelling, but still in thrall with plays that endure and speak to universal audiences.
No theater experience after high school beyond viewing. But where would be without viewers? Of course, there's teaching Shakespeare and the classics to squirmy high schoolers who became enthralled. Not such a small accomplishment, and effected by some dramatic renditions of my own by way of introduction. Recently, it's Storytelling that has captured my interest---a solo performance that encompasses multiple characters, setting, theme, etc.
I've belonged to both a Shakespeare reading group and a Dickens Reading group. I study Storytelling at Stagebridge and have my first solo performance scheduled for January 22nd. Words, character and conflict enchant me, and I thought I'd gravitate to writing. But the opportunities of voice, intonation, etc. pull me to a more public literary experience.
Fun!!!!!!
I'm retired, writing and thinking a lot, feeling like my earlier goal of changing the world might be just as easily effected by changing my experience and contribution. I guess that means I'm a reformed caregiver. I want now to exhilerate and inspire, rather than to "fix." Indeed, I'm mature enough to recognize that the former contributes to the latter in open-ended and transformative ways.
