A Sunday afternoon, a glass of wine, a few snacks, a fantastic piece of playwriting, and a group of avid play readers who like to have fun! What could be better?
East Bay PlayReaders is a group for amateurs who are theater lovers and would like the social experience of group reading. The group is open to anyone, and actors can join, but the purpose is to bring in non-professionals who want to be a part of a playreading, without theater experience. The venue we have chosen is in Alameda, CA. , but folks are free to join from all over the Bay.
This is an informal read, in an accepting environment. Please check our reviews, and the fun we have been having. However, this group is NOT a drop-in. Our readings are prepared, scheduled and cast. If you are looking for a "maybe I will stop by" group, please pass on us.
Typically a play reading will involve (1) social time to get to know each other (2) reading of the play(3) eating and drinking (4) discussion of the play (5) possibly viewing a movie of the play, after the fact, when a good movie version of the play is available.
The play reading will include both readers and audience, if extra people want to sit in and listen.
