Title: The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides
Genre: Fiction – General
Summary: Madeleine Hanna is writing her senior thesis on Jane Austen and George Eliot, purveyors of the marriage plot in English novels, when two guys enter her life. Leonard Bankhead is a college Darwinist with whom Madeleine has an erotic and intellectual relationship. Mitchell Grammaticus, a reader of Christian mysticism, is obsessed with the idea that Madeleine is destined to be his mate. As these three graduate from college and enter the real world, events force them to reevaluate everything they learned. Leonard and Madeleine move to a biology laboratory, but can’t escape the secret responsible for Leonard’s plunging moods. And Mitchell comes face-to-face with ultimate questions about the meaning of life, God, and love.
