Marcus Landslide hike with the geologist who discovered it!

I am very excited about this hike.  I am a geologist and this is a hike to Marcus Landslide by one of the guys who discovered it.  This landslide happened thousands of years ago (no exact date) when Phoenix was a wet environment, but was only discovered fairly recently.  This educational hike will be led by Brian Gootee (the geologist) and may be up to 3 hours long.  This hike is suitable for just about any hiker (new and old).

If you have never been to the Tom's Thumb trailhead go to http://mcdowellsonoran.org/event/displayEvent/295#sthash.EnQSGBVp.NmENLUpd.dpbs and click on "Tom's Thumb" in the location line.  Don't rely on your GPS telling you how long it takes to get there and the road to the trailhead is new so your GPS may not know that road exists.

Please arrive no later than 7:45 and try to get there for 7:30.  No dogs are permitted on guided hikes at the McDowell Mountain Conservancy.  Bring at least 1 liter of water, I suggest 1.5.  The Conservancy will have you sign a waver to attend their hike as well so keep that in mind.

Hey Heidi you were the traveller! We were supposed to trade contact info. But I see now you were part of my group.

I had a great brunch afterwards at the Pinnacle Grille. I got the south of the border omelet. I now know where to go to eat after hikes in this area!

Very informative! My Dad was a geology teacher, so it brought back good memories of things he would try to teach me as a kid. Alas, I was too young then. I learned more today!

Leana and I will be there after 7:30 so if you get there before that look for Ross or the group of conservancy volunteers in blue

Quick drop in 12 hours from 24 to 12 but I am so happy you changed your RSVP instead of just being no shows. I have very polite members. I expected about 6 all along so let's see how close I was.

Just noticed this will be more like a "tour," not so much a hike - a bit too easy for me ;)

It's a 'three hour tour'. Sounds like the theme song from Gilligan's Island except on land. Hopefully, none of us will get stranded. For the record I'm the 'professor'.

I don't have a ride and checked that public transportation cannot get me to the trail. Is anyone going to this hike from Tempe willing to give me a ride?
