Peralta Trail Wildflower Hike

  • This location is shown only to members

Join us to hike this trail in the Superstition Mountains. In the spring it's covered with many types and colors of wildflowers. We'll also see some unique rock formations and Weaver's Needle.

The hike is rated moderate. I'd say it's moderate leaning toward difficult because of its elevation gain and the distance.

Elevation gain: 1,360 feet

Distance: 4.6 miles out and back

It's likely to be pretty warm, so plan to bring sunblock, appropriate attire, sunglasses or visor, a snack, and at least 3 quarts of water. Wear sturdy hiking shoes for this one. Also bring a camera for those great wildflower shots.

We'll meet at Wildflower Bread Company at 7:30 and leave at 7:45 for the trail. Carpooling is recommended. There are a number of restaurants at the carpool location in case we want to get lunch after the hike.

See you there!

Wonderful hike, great group, and awesome pictures! Melissa - thanks for organizing and thanks to everyone that posted the photos - some truly talented photographers (of the 2 I took on my phone one of them prominently featured my thumb, so I am not counting myself in that group!). Hope to see you all out on another trail!

The flowers where out and blooming!! The hike was a good hike up. I think that most of the people that showed up returned.

I have just sent out my phone number to yes responses. If you join this event after this comment is posted, let me know and I'll send you my number. Thank you to all who have updated their responses. Please keep doing that as we will need to divide the group into 2 if we have more than 15. If anybody would like to lead the other half, let me know. Thanks and see you there!

I will take a moderate pace, so that people have time to take wildflower and scenery pictures and we will stop for breaks as needed.

I don't know if I will have a cell phone signal at the trailhead, so if you need to communicate with me, try as early as possible.

Except that we will be going only as far as the Freemont Saddle, so ignore the total mileage on this write up.

I live in Apache Junction, where is the trailhead from there. Where can I meet the group?

Here are the directions to the trail head for anybody that wants to meet there:

      Directions

The Peralta Trailhead is located east of Mesa AZ in the Superstition Wilderness, 7.3 miles north of Highway 60 (Superstition Highway) on Peralta Road.

Exit Highway 60 just past mile marker 204 onto Peralta Road, and follow this up to the trailhead.

Note the road turns to groomed dirt .9 miles from the turnoff, but is suitable for 2WD cars. The road forks suddenly after 5.5 miles - keep left. You'll pass the Lost Goldmine Trailhead (6.9 miles) before reaching the Peralta Trailhead (7.3 miles).

Weather: Starting out in the mid 60s in the morning. High of 85 which will happen after we are done. In other words, perfect!

Hey gang, it's looking like a gorgeous day for a hike! Right now the high is predicted to be 79. It will be sunny and warm, so sunblock and plenty of water are in order. Also please update your RSVPs so we know if we need to expect you. Thanks much and looking forward!

Whoops! New here and thought the hike was today. Thx to Lisa for pointing out to me it's next weekend. Will see if I am free and can make it. :)

That is a great hike! Unfortunately, I'm going kayaking tomorrow. Otherwise I would go. If you haven't done this hike, check it out. You will have a great time! :)

    March 24, 2013

    • Lisa

What does kayaking today have to do with Peralta next weekend? Just curious. How long is the Kayaking trip?

Would love to come but will be home playing Easter bunny!

Keep in mind only 15 people are permitted in a group at that trailhead. If more sign up you will need to hike in two groups.

    February 27, 2013

    • Melissa

Yep, thanks, I had capped it at 30.

      February 28, 2013

Funny I was going to host the exact same thing so I have to come up with something else now :)

It's such a good one. :) Hope you can make it.
